Core Makes A Hole In A Door
on: March 31, 2009, 12:50:39 PM
Operation 'Dog Door' was staged today. In the spirit of Def & DavidBinGA (+ the rest) the goal was to complete the job with only my Leatherman Core. Project was 98% successful. The Core's awl made a great drill for opening the hollow wood door so I could get the saw into play. It took a bit of time to cut the outer skin as I could not use the full length of the saw.

I was surprised to see on the inside the door was ? reinforced with criss-crossed cardboard
The inside door skin was a lot quicker to cut given I could use the full length of the saw  :tu: & the Core's file did a good job cleaning up the edges & opening up the hole for the dog door frame.BTW I had a go with the Paul Chen Multitaker's file locked into position & it worked quite well  :o :D

                                  Not ready Kip  :D.

The Core's ace phillips driver was just the thing for driving the self tappers into the deeply recessed frame holes  :tu:

                                  Now it's ready Kipper
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll287/multimat426/dog%20door/S6302430.jpg[/img]]

                                  It works  :o :o :D :D

Tools used(Saw,File & Phillips head driver)

OK I mentioned earlier the project was 98% successful , the 2% you ask. Well I tried to use the Core's Awl to try & do a pilot hole for the self tappers , it's shape prevented it going through the deep hole recces . I then used the tools phillips head driver to do a pilot indentation with limited success. for the final 4 screws I relented & used my SAK Pioneer's great Awl  ::) ::) :D :D.

Broken knife tip, dodgy fix with Surge Diamond file   >:D

You could have just thrown the Core at the door and it would have gone through, saving you a fair bit of time!  :D

Good job!

That's the spirit, good job there MultiMat. Nice to see the Core can handle something as creating a doggie door.

Thanks , I think he might be a 'Jack Rabbit' with those ears  :D :D
Kipper is cross between a Tenterfield Terrier ( a sub breed of Jack Russell's I think) & a Pappillion (Butterfly as in crazy big ears). Sometimes one of Kipper's ears curls down & he actually looks normal  ::) :D :D :D.

That's the spirit, good job there MultiMat. Nice to see the Core can handle something as creating a doggie door.

Thanks Binga , from the man who just needs a MT to get a job done  :salute: :D

I would love to see the pocket that could hold Kipper , he goes from having a Kip(sleep :P) to flat knackers in half a second  :o :D :D.
He is a very lover able dog though & my eldest son has gone from fearing Dogs too being comically paternal with kip & patting other dogs  :o :o :o :D.
