Noks Sapper
on: April 05, 2009, 10:36:42 PM
From the bizarre world of Gazprom and Doktor Zhivago comes the latest in Russian multitools. Made by Noks (translation = Knife) Company, the Sapper does not resemble any multitool ever produced in the West.

Alongside a SOG ParaTool for comparison:

If the Sapper's strong point is its eye-catching appearance, then user-ergonomics is its weak link. This thing was engineered to maim, not to kill (its owner!) :ahhh The knuckle-munching teeth on the underside of the handle quickly get one's attention, as does the painfully narrow palm-creasing frame and the fang-like awl blade. Obviously the inventer subscribed to the old What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger philosophy. :D

No one can accuse Noks of cheaping out on the features though. This thing is almost Swiss-like in its tool density.  :)

That looks like a fascinating tool- what is the overall quality like?  It seems like it was built for maximum functionality first and user comfort/ergonomics were secondary (if even then!) which seems typical of Eastern European tools and knives.

Honestly it looks almost hand built. Like an ill-conceived project that someone spent a lot of time making. The overall desing is crazy, but the individual parts are exquisite. :)

How far does it open? Seems the palm hole puncher is meant as wood saw.

Would you be willing to trade it?

We are talking about bob here, there is nothing you have he doesn't have already.  :ahhh

The original owner imported it from Russia with some other knives and cutlery. I'm trying to see if he can get more. :)

I love it.  I don't want one ('cos, you know, I like having ten fingers) but I think it's a classic bit of OTT tool making.

Agreed. I've enjoyed seeing the pictures but I'd hate to have to use (or even handle) one.

That thing looks so goofy, it has no choice but to be functional :think:
"Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall;
 Some run from breaks of ice, and answer none:
 And some condemned for a fault alone." -William Shakespeare, King Lear (1608), Act IV, scene 6, line 169

Actually, I think the placement of the wire cutter is a GREAT idea. The nail lifter intrigues me as well.
