UK Meet Up Colection Highlights?
on: April 20, 2009, 08:40:35 AM
Ok as per last year, what were your collection highlights, the ones that really stood out for you despite the array fineness there ???

I'm almost ashamed to admit that I probably missed a lot, simply because of the shere number of toys there :-[, but in my defence there was probably between 400-500 tool's there :o

From Gareth it's simply got to be the throwing axes :), huge fun, and nigh on indestructable :tu:

Ben the Chinnook, damn that thing's as stout as a fixed blade :tu:

Ryan, got to be that Knife you made, yes I saw it last time, but I'm still bloody impressed by it, so get making some more  :pok: :pok:

Dave, It was nice to see that old MT.O Charge again, and I still wouldn't mind a Crunch :), but I've gone right off the A100 for some reason ::) :D

Nick, well it's got to be that Katana hasn't it :), the balance of that thing has to be felt to be appreciated :tu:

Phil, well it had to be the Tempest for me, as brought back a lot of happy memories for me. Thanks for bringing it :tu:

Chris, that Paratool sheath was pretty cool, it's a shame more manufactures don't follow suit ::). and that urban PSK was a pretty good rig :), but I'm still not sure I believe you about those pink pills :D

Neil, well come on this was always going to be easy, got to be that Pioneer again, very, very closely followed by that Farmer your working on

So what about you guy's ???
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

Honest injun - 400mg Ibuprofen, nothing more interesting!

I was pretty overwhelmed with the collections to be honest. Especially from Dave and Neil, they have such fab peices. I loved Gareths throwing axes and your lovely Gransfors axe (I was coveting one the same at the outdoors show).
I also fell a bit on love with your Grohmann #4

The overall highlight for me was just getting to know you all, that was really great  :D

I might get chance this summer but before then not much chance of that happening! :( Unless you want to commission one from me :pok: :D

As for my highlights:
Neil: Definitely that paracord codpiece of yours 8)
Nick: The best smelling knife there, the green UKPK :tu:
Dave: You and your Twitch, non stop he was ::) :D
Gareth: Him living up to his Scottish heritage and drinking Iron Bru!
Phil: Air rifle :tu: :D
Chris: That knife destroying maniac you brought! :P
Mike: The paddle! :D
Ben: Your "pose" on the chair brought back good memories :)

Glad I could be of some use.  :D

The air pistols and rifle bought by Phil and Dave were surprisingly fun to play with.  Looks like I have a new investment to make.  ::)

I can bring my maniac any time you like  :D

What miffed me was that she thought it was my knife and therefore OK to treat it badly... no respect you see! Pah.

  I can never remember what belonged to who.  It was bad enough last year but this time there was so much stuff.  In fact if any of you find you've got each others tools its probably my fault for putting them back down on the wrong part of the table  :-[

Whilst I still think they look daft, in the hand the Grohmann #4 was very pleasant, well finished and lovely balance.  At the other end of the scale I was certainly less impressed with the Gerber that Dave asked me to try getting the phillips out of that I broke my thumbnail on.  Item that most surprised me was the crkt kiss.  Never liked the look of them but after handling want one, do they do a non-locking version?

Got to handle some of the shinier (expensive) bits from Dave's collection whilst he wasn't looking (sorry for the fingerprints  >:D ), was also interesting to have a fiddle with Phil and Dave's Garmins as the last time I used a standalone GPS receiver they were house brick sized.  Nice to see others SAKs mods, excellent alox peening on Gareth's  :salute:  but there was nothing shabby from any of them  :salute:

If I had to pin it down though my fave item of the weekend was the rescaled Climber Dave gave me.  Not only is it a great looking SAK but knowing the effort that went in to making them all for us lucky folk makes it extra special.

Neil

Here is the slip KISS http://www.heinnie.com/product.asp?s=kdri841431488&strParents=&CAT_ID=0&P_ID=3169&strPageHistory=search&numSearchStartRecord=1

Thanks Ben. Whilst I might be tempted especially for the money, that's pretty different in design to the one I fiddled with (think it was Nick's).

Anyone got one they'd like to play swaps with :)

Oookay, try to remember.

Ben - I quite liked the Spyderco Police. I'd seen pics, but didn't realise it was that blummin' big. Nice knife that.

Mike - That Coldsteel(?) knife/axe thing - the black one. Wicked tool that.

Flash - Again, my taste and Nick's are very similar so I liked most of his stuff. Picking one thing is hard, but I'm going to go with the Byrd Wrench.

Gareth - The throwing axes - good fun they were.

Phil - the .22 air rifle.

Ryan - I think I actually only looked at one of Ryan's tools, so that's really easy - the Spirit :D

Neil - the Rat!

Nuphoria - The paratool, or more precisely the Blackie Collins sheath. Looked even better in real life.

Is that everyone?
I used to come here a lot.

It's an old Webley senior as I was quite keen on the Tempest I got to shoot this weekend.  Not too keen on the newer styled pistols so went looking for an oldie and that one came up.

If I'm going to shoot an airgun, it's either a Gamo Break Barrel (1.77) or a Benjamin Sheridan (.20)!

Quick pic before it all gets put back on the shelf :)

There were so many tools this year it was a little overwhelming.  I don't think I'll be be brigining a big case next time, the smaller case from last year still provided enough room to hold a good few quirky items but without the risk of back injury when moving :D
