on: May 30, 2009, 03:19:36 PM
Hi everyone. I have known about this web site for quite some time now. However, I was so enthralled by the very nice reviews found on the main page that I neglected to notice the forums section until recently. I found this web site after doing some research on a few unknown pieces that I have. I was thrilled that there was a very good website that catered to multi-tools.

My love of multi-tools was fostered by my late father, who firmly believed that one should never be without a utility knife in the field.

Anyways, I am a mild collector. I pick up pieces that catch my eye. I am strangely missing a few brands such as SOG and Victorinox. I am hoping to fill those gaps in my collection some day. I just haven’t run across any in my travels yet.
A little Leatherman information.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

MultiMat...

Which one do I like the best? That is a good question. For feel and weight, I am very partial to the older Schrade Tough Tool ST1. That piece just reeks of quality fit and finish. Of course, it is an older design and the blades can be dangerous as they don’t lock very well. I also like the Leatherman Core for much the same reasons as I like the ST1.

I think you have seen my other photographs in the general tool thread...however here is a better list. (If anyone can give me any info on the unknowns in my list, I would appreciate it).

1.   Outdoor Edge TREK TOOL.
2.   Colman Pro Lock.
3.   Schrade Tough Tool ST1.
4.   Schrade Multi-tool. (No clue on model number)
5.   Remington Wingmaster.
6.   Unknown.
7.   Benchtop. Junkiest piece I own.
8.   Buck x-tract Fin.
9.   American Camper.
10.   American Camper.
11.   Carolina Tools.
12.   Gerber 400.
13.   Gerber Flick.
14.   Leatherman Surge.
15.   Leatherman Core.
16.   Leatherman Fuse.
17.   Leatherman Pulse.
18.   Leatherman Skelatool

19.   Sheffield Camping multi-tool.
20.   Unknown.
21.   Caterpillar Torquemaster by Kutmaster.
22.   Unknown.
23.   Mastercraft Bionic  Multi-tool (Loggerhead ImmiX 10X)
24.   Gerber Solstice.
25.   Unknown.
26.   ToolWorx.
27.   Unknown.
28.   Unknown.
29.   Coast fishing multi toolbox.
30.   Unknown.
31.   Buck minibuck tool 350.
32.   Gerber Clutch.
33.   Toolsmith.
I am missing representatives of SOG and Victorinox, along with a few of the weirder Leathermans, and the juice line, etc.

These can’t be hand in my city…I have checked. I haven’t started buying things off line yet.  I have a feeling I may end up there sooner or later.

There's not much to be had in Sudbury, that's for sure!  :D

My family is all about halfway between there and The Soo, so I know Sudbury pretty well.  You should be able to find some tools at Wal Mart, Home Depot, Costco and Canadian Tire, but buying them online is significantly cheaper.  It took years before I'd buy online, now I rarely, if ever buy anything in person.

Welcome to the forum!  :D

Well I haven't been to Sudbury in years, although I did 2 years at Laurentian back in the mid 90s. :)

I am from the Soo. :)
You are right, I think I may have to start buying online.

OMG...did I write that? Maybe I should re-read my postings before I hit the post button lol.

I meant....

I can't find these models in my city. I have checked everywhere. I haven't started buying multi-tools online yet.  I have a feeling I may end up there sooner or later.

Nuphoria. I just got that one today. I wasn't planning on using it. It was odd enough for me to get it though. I didn't pay much for it. I collect high and low end stuff…whatever catches my eye. This is definitely low end.
My impressions of it are mixed. It is comfortable to the hand, and has a nice weight to it. There is a slightly sharp sheet metal edge that does dig into the fingers on the folding tool side when you firmly grip the tool. The axe is sharp enough. It is perfect for taking down small branches and twigs. The small hammer would be perfect for hammering in tent pegs. The tools are of fairly good quality. I have seen far worse. There are no locks on the folding tools. However, there is a strong enough spring action that they snap in place. Still have to be very careful you don't cut yourself if you apply enough force for the tools to snap shut. Overall, not a bad piece for the price. It is weird enough that I couldn't pass it up when I saw it at Home Depot.
