My pocket carry EDC/OCD :0)
« on: June 16, 2009, 12:46:24 PM »
It's an ever evolving beast as many of you will agree, but I have a current EDC which I'm trying out and quite happy with so far.

Here's a pic of all of it - explanations to follow:

So, most of it's obvious I think but I'll run through the contents and how it's packed.

In the green Urban Wallet I carry the SOG Paratool, Byrd Meadowlark & Zebra 301 compact on the outside. In the side pocket is my Duct tape wrapped card which also has a threaded needle, paper clip, safety pin, 4GB memory stick and a couple of stamps (stuck on the other side). The plastic bag full of fix it stuff is also in this pocket, containing: Plasters, steristrips, short bandage, alcohol swab, 4 cable ties, 3 safety pins, rubber band, split ring, paracord guts and a paper 1M tape with my ICE number info on it. The top pocket has cash and cards in.

I also carry a small leather change purse which has change in the main pocket and a small gas lighter and compass in the small one. It also has a nutbanger fob on it which is one of my faves to make :)

The other bits and bobs are a photon type light which clips on to my trousers (replaced with a Fenix LD10/20 when needed), a lipsalve, my trusty Sony P1i phone and my keys. The keys have a scuba fob containing pills and emergency money in, a Vic Rambler, Sliver grippers and my homemade shopping trolley opener ;)

A rather good belt is also needed to keep the trousers up :D

Changes I will probably make depend on cash - mostly changing the Byrd for something legal! Maybe a UKPK. I swap out the Paratool & the knife for a Vic Craftsman when it's more appropriate to carry it, or any other that takes my fancy that day... KF4 being the most likely at the moment.

I think that's it...

Do you carry 2 pouches or does it all go in the Urban Wallet?

I sorta like having everything in pockets--ie no carry bags, and nothing in my hands as a walk.

I really like that fob on the coin purse and the silver lighter (? it is the lighter right?)

Nice set-up.  I really like the micro light lanyard.  Could you take a close-up of the nutbanger :'( fob?  By the looks of it I am wondering if the is room to carry a tool bit within it.

2 pouches in separate pockets and yes, that's the lighter. It's a great little thing I've had for years.

The nutbanger is woven really tight so you wouldn't be able to squash anything in to it. The nuts are just threaded over the central strands before weaving so aren't moveable in any way. It's purely decorative!

I looked at that pile and thought "wow that's a lot to EDC".  I then thought about it again, "less than I lug about though isn't it".  :-[  Nice set-up Chrissy  :tu:

All that in your pockets  ::) You really use all that on a daily/weekly basis? The reason I ask is because if I have something not used for a week or two, its going out of my EDC rotation, pockets wise. It goes than in my bag, and if it is not used for a month or so, it goes in a cupboard. If not used in a year or so, it goes in the trash or give it to someone who's going to use it.

What's your take on that? Perhaps a good question for a new topic...

That's a nice set up. Looks like you have everything covered. How do you like the Byrd Meadowlark?

I think they call it money Mike - could be wrong  :-\

Zepla - yes, it mostly gets used which is why I carry it! The smaller stuff like the fixing stuff bag is so slim and light that's it's silly not to carry it really :)

Prime77 - I absolutely love the Meadowlark. I have been using it lots for everything that comes to hand including trimming down plywood and it's keeping an edge very well. I picked it up almost new for £15 I think and it's a great value knife. :tu:
