Huh you guys actually carry a separate donor card? Here it's indicated on driver's license. there are three options, yes, no, consult family member. In u.s. I recall there are only two, yes and no. But doesn't matter what you say it's ultimately up to family member to decide after you die.

Who holds the ultimate authority thou, what you say on the card or family member?I don't like the opt out system despite chose yes on my license. Too much big brother, government forced recycling of body parts... It was suggested here too, but got shot down quickly if I recall.

It was suggested here too, but got shot down quickly if I recall.Good point but as I'm a strong advocate of it, I would prefer it that way round.Ultimately it is your next of kin who decides regardless of what card you carry etc. For me, both my partner and mother know my feelings on the subject so I hope if it should happen that I get appropriately recycled That's the important message to get home I guess - make sure your people know what you want.
It's relatively easy to test for those things before using any tissues for transplant - standard practise anyway as many people don't know their status regarding diseases.
