Slightly off-topic, does anyone else own a Buck 486? It's the same size as a 110, but with its synthetic handle it's a LOT lighter than the 110. Has a nice deep pocket clip, too. One of my favorite large folders.

I`ve been trying to decide     whether to get a Cabela's Alaskan Guide 110 or order a custom 110 from Buck for almost a year now. I`d almost forgot about it till someone revived this thread  :pok: Mr. Dunc  :D. I`m leaning toward the custom 110 from Buck. Of course all you wonderful enablers will tell me to buy both. Which isnt a bad idea. But which one first is the big question?   :D

Go custom  first and you get what you like. S30V is available in the custom shop it is the same steel as the AG. Lots of option so choose carefully!

Here is a pic of a 110 that is of 70-72 vintage if I`m reading the info correctly. Its well used but still has a lot of use left.

David,  Yes that's an old one!   :tu:  Nice shape for it's age.  I've got quite a bit of
information on the variations and versions on the Buck 110 given to me by a fella
on Blade Forums awhile ago.  Your right about it being around the 70-72.  Does it
have a brass spacer at the rear or stainless?  :)

Sean its brass. About a week ago there was another one with a brass spacer that I was wanting to go for but it looked like the blade had been on a grinder so let it pass.

Thanks Sean. I like it all right. What I really like about these older 110s is the longer clip point. Buck like other companies that made pointy blades probably had to beef them up to slow down warranty claims on snapped off points. Since I do not used the point of my knife blade as a pry bar that is not a concern of mine. So I like more pointy blades. Plus I think they look more purdy.    :D

I just bought myself the fabled 110. Like a few here, I never owned one, but did have a few cheap copies which turned out to be not bad knives all told. This one caught my eye because of the 50 year anniversary logo in the handle. Those old copied do not hold a candle to the real thing however. Quality through and through.

I just picked up one of the anniversary models as well, Bass Pro had them marked down to 25 and that's a price that is just too hard to walk away from. So this makes two 110s for me!

Hell for $25 I'd jump on it too, they go for $50+ here, so I could never justify getting one.

I did not know they offered customs. Maybe when I get my refund for the custom Griptilian a custom Buck will replace it.

I have a NIB Buck 110 in the safe. My wife bought it for me around 1990 and I thought it was too nice to use. Instead I carried an Edgemark 110 knock off that she bought me in 1972. It was my constant companion for almost twenty years until I bought my first Spyderco Endura. I also have a NIB Buck Special 119 in the safe that my wife bought me and sentimentality keeps it there along side the Folding Hunter. My son can enjoy them when I pass on.  tom.  8)

I recently remembered that my pa used to sharpen his 110 on a Arkansas stone in garage.
This got me thinking as to were that buck was so I asked him if could find it but he wasn't even sure he still had it!
A couple weeks later he still hadn't found it so I decided to order a 50th edition. A couple days after I got it in the mail, Pa produced the 1987 Buck 110 with finger grooves while I was browsing this site!
He said he "found it in a drawer".    :D

I really like the look of a 110,but they're a lot of money here in Britain, and there's that whole locking thing too...
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

I asked a company where I bought some knives from, they have this model but with the finger grooves for US$95 +/-. It's about us$10 more than the price on the Buck site, so it doesn't seem much more expensive but it's still a high price for a knife...

... especially when you guys talk about the same knive for US$25!!!!

Probably because of where you are:/, also the finger grooves models don't seem to be nearly as common as those without. The 25 dollar deal I came across was likely because Bass Pro wanted the Anniversary models gone before years end, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense as I would figure they would be worth a bit more than the standard 110s?

I just got one of the 50th anniversary models.  Since the 110 is such an iconic knife, I always felt I should have one in my collection.  The 50th anniversary model gave me a reason to pick one up.  It is a cool knife and I like the heft of the brass in hand.  With that said though, this knife is too big and heavy for my tastes as a user, so mine will remain a safe queen.  Nevertheless I am glad to finally own one.
