Tweezers fitting a bit loose in new Plus scales
on: August 28, 2009, 09:40:33 PM
 :climber:
I just added Plus scales to my Climber, and the tweezers are fitting a bit looser than they did in the original scales.  Is there a problem with the slot or do i just need to get new tweezers?  I've been looking forward to this upgrade and i'd hate it if they were defective.

yeah.  there's a miniscule space between that scale and the metal, but i doubt that's the problem as it doesn't fit any snugger if i push it flat.

Howdy,
I haven't heard of that problem before but there is always a frst time.  Something I think might be the problem is that sometimes when you remove old scales you will leave a very small remnant of the scales around the pins. they are a bit hard to spot sometimes but it is just enough to hold the scale a little high at the pins. the tweezers ride next to the pin so it translates the problem to the tweezers. You can also try sliding your tweezers into the toothpick slot on the other side. You wont be able to seat it entirely but you should feel a difference as you slide it in. If that isnt the problem please send me your shipping info. (I am sure I have it but to avoid any mistake it will help) to rotokid@gmail.com  I will send you a new set of tweezers. I believe the "nub" on your tweezers may be worn a bit and often there is a residue buildup on the old scales that holds the in place. Of course if that doesn't fix the problem I will certainly send out new scales to you.

that may be the problem, because i also put a new scale on my Minichamp, which has new tweezers, and they're just fine.  actually, i don't see a 'nub' on my climber tweezers at all.

that didn't do much.  i can't bend them too far or they won't close right.  i'm going to try brushing a tiny bit of clear nail polish on the head.  if that doesn't work i'll go to the store and try a new tweezer(any excuse to haunt the knife shop :D).

I have discovered the problem.
the shield scale is in fact a bit loose.  Whether it is a factory defect or (as i'm more inclined to think)  the result of the package baking in my mailbox all day i don't know, but that end of the scale isn't as secure as it ought to be, and is actually being pushed away from the liner ever so slightly when the tweezers are inserted, causing them to fit loosely.  Good thing I kept the original scales.
