An old Wenger of unkown name.
on: December 23, 2009, 09:00:15 PM
I just got another Wenger in from the UK. It is my first older style can opener knife.

Anyone have a clue what model this is? It is like a Troller, but it has a saw and no diamond file. I have searched high and low on SAKWiki to no avail. The previous owner couldn't ID the knife either. It was missing a toothpick, but I had several from lot buying, and lucky for me it appears that Wenger isn’t as keen on changing the size of their accessories like Victorinox does. I found a perfect fit in my inventory off of a junker knife.

Believe it or not, that's actually the can opener. :)

It's no problem; it definitely doesn't look like one, lol.  Still, I think the old lobster can openers are quite neat. >.>

With that said, the v-can opener is the second can opener design Wenger has used.  First came the lobster claw (I think), then the v-can opener, followed by the current incarnation which was purchased off from Victorinox when they made the shift from that can opener to the current model (or slight variant thereof). :)

I have looked all over SAKWiki, and it doesn't seem to be listed.

There must be someone in here who knows their Wengers.

Yep, that is the can opener. I am sure I would have hated to use it out in the field. No wonder they bought the Victorinox version later on.

I have this same knife, box and paper except mine has a corkscrew. I have no idea of any names or model numbers. Mine only has a sticker on the end of the box that was probably put there by some store owner with "739" on it. That can opener design was still being used on new knives even in the mid 1970's. Actually this can opener design has an earlier design with an elongated and slightly smaller thickness extension. Here is a photo of the older more elongated design of this early can opener. It is tang stamped "Wengerinox" on the back.

Nice looking SAK Chako, I'm no help with the name though I'm sorry to say.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.
