Leatherman MUT?
« on: January 20, 2010, 04:20:47 am »
I've been checking all the sites for SHOT show updates when I stumbled across this gem.

This could be interesting.

I don't care if I'm a Vic fanboy... or that I have no need for one... yet (give me a couple months, then we'll talk), but I'm so getting one.

OMG

I don't even need it but damn Leatherman, that thing is awesome! Looks like they really thought the features through.

This is why I love Leatherman. Can't wait to see what else they have waiting in the shadows.

It's like the Skeletool and ST300 had rough sex.

Fan of the Leatherman mini-bit driver, dedicated slotted drivers, and the Victorinox backspring philips. But not combo blades.

Another thought...the ST300 plier heads are being manufactured with the standard (no crimper) design in black oxide.  Hopefully just a matter of time that a standard BO ST300 is released.

This is all assuming the plier heads are identical, which at first look I think they are.

The MUT (Military Utility Tool) is indeed an all new offering from Leatherman, introduced just today. It is designed specifically for military, police, or civilian users of AR15/M16 rifles. There are two models in the works; the standard version and an EOD version. We handled several prototypes today:

At first glance the MUT may appear to a be simply a tricked-out Skeletool, but don't let the scale fool you. The plier head is the same one used on the new Super Tool 300, and the knife and saw blades are the largest ever included on a Leatherman tool.

It has a hammer!! :tu: :tu:

How many times, with nothing else better close at hand, have you been tempted to hammer on something with your multitool? :o (And how many times have you given in to that temptation?!!) :ahhh :D

Well now you can hammer away with a clear conscience, as the MUT has a solid "heel" type protrusion designed specifically as an impact tool.

Even better, a clever little strap cutter (with replacable blade!) is tucked underneath. :salute:
