I like the look of this tool, although it vaguely reminds me of a Gerber design.  It is a purpose built tool and as such i wouldn't have much need for it, but I love that the new plier head design is making it's way into a tool without outside, one hand opening blades.  It won't be long now I hope that we see this plier head on a Charge.

Very cool design, bold design actually.

J-sews, I hope I didn't ruin your and Grant's Shot Show report by posting this right away.

Anyway, was leatherman able to explain where and what the bolt override tool is about?

We attended a special "party" today hosted by Leatherman to launch the new MUT, which stands for Military Utility Tool.  It's going to be a bit pricey (we have heard around $150 MSRP) but it does look really good.  I don't think this is a gimmick kind of military tool like a lot of them- it looks like the real deal, although as you can imagine, I can't honestly say for sure until I try it.

Which means I need to find a good deal on an AR-15!  :D

The bolt override is simple a method of levering a jammed cartridge out quickly.

Is it me or are those bits really long :o :D

Nah it's just you  :D

Mighty long indeed! :salute: And a pretty damn clever on-board carrying means as well.  :tu:

There are actually two long bits on board (as well as a third short bit, more on that later) The bits are carried in a pair of form fitting slots on either side of the handle channel.

In the pic below you can just barely see the phillips tip of one driver peaking out of it's slot:

Rotating the plier handle up on its side, you can now see the tips of both bits peaking out, as well as the clever detent/push-button device that holds them in:

To access a driver bit, simply push the button down.....

....and slide the bit out.

Wallah!!

(please pardon the photos, as the room lighting was not ideal) :-\

We can ask Allan, but it was pretty clear the design emphasis was for use by military and police, in quick-response situations. They probably would not consider a two-hand opener to fit that criteria. :-\

It's a wrench, included with the MUT (along with a fancy Molle sheath) We are told the wrench is designed to fit optical sight mounts on the AR15/M16 rifles.
