New Kershaw Tool
« on: January 27, 2010, 09:04:57 pm »
This is another one I can't remember the name of, but I was very much interested in giving it a try!

Kershaw's new knife/screwdriver tool is a really great take on a problem a lot of knife/tool combos have- how to get enough screwdriver bits in to be worthwhile, but without making them too inaccessible or adding too much bulk.  Kershaw's answer?  Two spring loaded bit holders- one on either side of the knife!

And, rather than just cut a hexagonal hole in the handle or end, Kershaw actually put an extended screwdriver shaft on the knife that folds out and can be used in the 90 or 180 degree positions!

It also has a pretty sturdy clip on the backside, and, withoput my fingers in the way, you can see the bit carrier tucked inside:

All in all, this looks like a pretty cool tool, and I think it had an MSRP of $40, although Bob may be by to correct me on that.

It does nothing for me and I've no desire to own one.  That doesn't mean to say I don't think its a clever solution though and I think adding the scale the the bit holder is a nice touch.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Shame it's a locker but not a bad idea for a tool.

Thinner than the Leatherman knives, more bit options, and with a longer bit driver. All for less than $30. That's damn impressive really. The quality felt pretty good too, but we couldn't do any serious testing at the Show obviously.

Donvito, get busy with yours and let us know what you think! :pok: :D

A small update.

Got to use the tool a bit today at work taking a few things apart for regular cleaning, oiling, and general maintenance. The drivers worked fine and the fact they don't lock in place reduces the chance of placing too much pressure and possibly breaking the tool, you can use it one handed "locking" it with your fingers, or two handed just like any other driver which is facilitated by its long shaft.

This leave the knife blade, I'll use it tonight when I get home. The steel used is the same as in my Spyderco Persistence and I have hight hopes for this knife.

edit: The belt clip is short but wide and is very comfortable, its in the same spot where I carry my Skeletool and them sharing a similar length I'm not noticing any difference.

 V.

Oh I see, they had to keep the clip short to avoid getting into the bit storage "doors". Sounds like its working good for you though. :)
