You'll like the Alien, sometimes I'll use mine for things other than bike work;it's a tool that blurs the line between a specialized multi-tool and a generalized multi.

I have had an Alien for probably 15 years now, and it is still going strong.  Invaluable on the bike.  I never really considered carrying it off the bike, but it's not a bad idea.  Mine resides with my bike gear though, so I don't forget it.  If you want one without the chain breaker, just invest in a couple Sachs quicklinks and you won't have to break a chain again while out and about.  I use a full sized Park breaker at home.

While bike touring, I carry the Alien and a Charge.  Too bad no one makes a multi with a 4th hand tool on it...

Welcome to the forum Greg!

I find that the wrenches on a bike tool are a great compliment to a more traditional type multitool.  Other than a couple of screwdrivers, there usually isn't much in the way of redundancy between the bike and traditional tools, and the bike tool drivers usually have a longer reach, so they still come in handy.

Thanks for the welcome.

I have four bikes, a go fast road bike, a full suspension MTB, and two touring bikes.  My riding has evolved over the years, from off road, to road, and now to touring.  My old Alien has worked on them all.  I have been thinking of getting the Alien II or MacGuyver, but I haven't seen the need yet, other than just getting a new tool (which is always a good thing).
