Yes they still lock in the same way as the regular Charges and Waves with a liner lock.

The cut-outs aren't part of the lock mechanism :)

Funnily enough, I've just been comparing the 2H blades on an old Charge Ti (mine) and a new Charge ALX (Allan's), and they've changed them quite fundamentally.

It is actually possible to open the old blades one handed, but not the new ones. The new blade is shaped so that the area where the cut-out would normally go sloped away towards the back of the knife so that you can't get any friction to open it. It has a side effect that the blade is about half as thick on the spine as the regular blades, and looks like it it might snap under pressure  ???

I could be wrong but i think he means the lock that locks the blades closed when the pliers open up...I was also wondering the same thing since it uses the pins into the thumb holes to lock, so how do they work on the 2ho?

Ah yes - sorry - I misunderstood the question.

There is an additional dimple on the underside of the blade for the pin to fit into. It's identical to the dimple that exists on the regular blades with the OH cut-outs for the detent on the liner lock. I.e. there are two on the 2H blades, and the mechanism on the tool itself is identical to the OH tools.

I hope I explained that properly!

Don't they just have a ball detent like other knives?

Noooo. It's much cleverer than that! :D

That makes sence, I was always wondering how that worked on the 2ho's...I always thought that was a pretty clever idea to use the little ramping system on the pliers so when it opens it drives the pin outward.

It is ingenious isn't it?

It's the little differences like that that separate the men from the boys, so to speak :)

A relevent picture from another thread: :)

Can you open the blades when the pliers are deployed? Thanks

Excellent question my good fellow! :salute: I had to check:

The answer is no, due to the little hole Leatherman added on the back of the blade to engage the safety clip.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

that is pretty cool.  they must have some certifiable geniuses over there.  Why didn't they put that on the skeletool.  My blade slipped out the other day and nicked me (no blood though).

I always wondered why they didn't put something like that on the skeletool...but ive never had mine slip, it seems to stay closed fairly well...But ill have to be aware of that now.
