Huh. I'm not sure this thing is even legal...
« on: February 07, 2010, 02:17:36 am »
My wife picked up a couple tools for working on the ductwork the other day.  She thought I'd be interested in the duct knife.

Looks harmless enough...

Hmm...
That's an interesting blade...

Wait a minute...
Serrated edge on on side, Plain edge on the other?  That's not the standard combo blade...

Serrations but both sides are sharpened.  Serrations on one side by also ground on the other side

Plain edge

Maybe they know there's some legality issues...

Oh, and it cuts through galvanized ductwork quite easily... :D  :ahhh

Make the handles black, a kydex sheath and that's a dead ringer for a $200 tactical covert dagger :D

Are there any markings on the blade of a manufacturer?

Are dual edged knives illegal in some parts of the US .

Dual edge knives are illegal in OZ. Is it the whole stabbing thing  . Would the person being stabbed notice the difference    :P

A common theme here in the US are State laws banning the carry of dirks or daggers on one's person. It's generally perfectly legal to own them and keep them in your home but they're usually defined as weapons once you start carrying them about.

This site has an interesting blurb about why that is.

Quote
These knife laws are artifacts of fear -- of prejudice and
uncertainty. If you know a little American history, you can look at a
knife law's wording, and tell when it was first enacted...

* If it speaks of concealed dirks and daggers, it dates to the wave of
anarchist and pro-German terror bombings around 1915-1918, which
frightened an entire generation of Americans into surrendering their
liberty.
