They look real good and if I didn't have a OHT I'd be all over it, but I see no reason to get one just for a scale change.
I'm back!!

I didn't like the New Soldier one bit I'm afraid. I found it uncomfortable to handle, I hate the liner lock that releases the "wrong way" and I couldn't help feeling that even in my limited collection of knives, I had loads of better options.

I think maybe at the point that a SAK becomes 111mm long, has OHO and locks, it almost ceases to be a SAK and for me sacrifices many of the benefits and attractions of SAKs (e.g. legality, compactness, non-scary looks). I love the 08 Alox soldier, but am no fan at all of the new style :)

I got rid of mine.

This slating is on no way due to the fact that I cut the top off my finger on mine - honest  :P

The lock has never bothered me. I love the new soldier/OHT. Actually the Trekker a little more since it's cheaper and has the tweezers and toothpick. The old soldiers are great too, but I love having a lock. I've had so many near misses with slippies that I'll always take a locker if I have a choice.

I have got used to the liner lock , and like the combo of liner lock and backspring , no way that baby is going to "creep " open in the pocket if carried tip up ! It has become my most used SAK on the jobsite . I have to admit I prefer the Alox Soldier for off duty wear , but the OH Soldier is better for cutting fibre glass banding tape and other abusive stuff .

The New Soldier ( at least in my hood ) is a "Tactical" that flies below the Radar .

I take it the lock being on the wrong side is the same as that found on the Vic Rescue tool ? if so its cool with me as I'm left handed  :D

I've not found a problem with the handedness of the liner lock and I'm a righty( ity a OHT btw not a solider but you understand eh?). I'm also loving the part serations.  It took no time at all to use mine to cut up the xmas tree this year and the saw only came out once.

Well it arrived yesterday  :D  and its everything I hoped it would be and more . The scales have a more solid quality feel to them then I thought they would have .I'm going to have a good play with it and report back my findings . I'm out on the river tonight and it may just come with me  :D

I think it's a good tool for a seafaring man , the serrations sharpen well on the Spyderco , good on rope . The bottle opener cum lite prybar works well for odd stuff .

It's always good when the waiting ends  :D Can we have pics of you slaying giant squid with it please? The serrations ought to be great against barnacle encrusted tentacles  >:D :viking:
