I would love a sheath constructed like the current wave sheaths but entirely out of leather with a snap and no velcro.

Like the Charge sheath? I think that's what you're describing but might have misunderstood.

How can I tell if I have an old or a new one? Mine is now about 5 years old or something like that and works great.

It'll depend on what it came with I believe.  If it's from a PST, Pulse or Super Tool/ST200 then it'll be an old one.  If from a Kick, Fuse or Blast it'll be a new one.

It came with a wave, the "new" model with the bit drivers. So I geass I have the new pouch, right? I have to say, I have it almost daily for some years on my belt and it is still in good condition. Better than it was new actually.

I have never tried the ones pictured, they look quite flimsy though  :-\

I quite like the Charge one  :tu: It feels different to the Wave but maybe it's just me

Not sure if you're counting the Juice pouch here but it too is one of my faves  :tu: It is totally different to all others :D

No - the Wave one is quite a bit better. The ones in question came with the Kick, Fuse, Blast, Core and the later Crunch (the Crunch along with the Micra and Juice being all that remains of the pre 2004 re-vamping of the line).

Ah, so I have a "good" one then :tu: That's why I didn't get all the fuzz about bad sheaths  ::)

I think the current sheaths for both the charge and wave have elastic side panels. I mean one completely out of leather sides and all.

The old ones were so nice. Thick leather, yet soft and supple, with a nice smell. :) Why did they switch to the cardboardian leather? >:( SOG still makes their leather sheaths the old way. :)
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

It appears SOG  is the only one to make a sheath as good as they used to.

SOG sheaths I have seen are a nice brown Latigo . My only bitch is that they don't cover the scratchy bits on their rivetts . Easily solved with a bit of contact cement and some thin leather scrap .

That sheath is the one they created for the Surge Paul, and is effectively a jumbo version of the sheath they supplied with the new Wave. (The Charge is a very similar design, but made from thicker, higher quality leather, but essentially the same).

Unfortunately, the sheath supplied with the cheaper tools, well, is a bit pants.

The quality of the elastic in the side gussets isn't anything to write home about . Not bashing . They do the right thing and put their money into the tool .

Oh? - I've found the elastic to be pretty tough. I've jammed all sorts in there to see what'll fit.
