Just to clarify, I was like that due to exhaustion and being ill, it sadly wasn't self inflicted.  So drawing a beard on me may have been a bit harsh.

Recently I've been using the can opener on the Tourist I keep in the kitchen a little more, as the store bought can opener I have is a bit shoddy - and everytime I go shopping I forget to get another

I'm amazed at how often the need for a can opener comes up, especially when it's the the only one around.  Not to mention the screwdriver tip.  I've been enjoying the combo tool on my Compact, it works well for double-duty.

I can say that it's been a while since I've needed a can opener. It came in real handy when I would go out for training while I was in the Army. The rations we would get would require a can opener sometimes and I would usually be the one with one that had one that really worked. Keeping it sharp sometimes would be an issue though.

I use the can opener relatively often to open cans of concentrated tomato. I find it useful.

We were going through our food situation for the hurricane, and a fair bit of our cans are traditional ones without a pull ring.  I held a little class on how to use a Wenger can opener this morning so when the electric one doesn't work, nobody will starve if I'm not around.

I have started using the can opener on my Wave a TON at work.  I'm on the road all the time and I use it to open dinner typically.  I use it so much that I could not be without it.

I don't use a can opener that much, but I would like to add that if relying on canned food I think it as good to have a can opener lying around, even if the cans do have a pull ring. The pull ring may break, and especially in an emergency it's good to make life as easy as possible for oneself.
