Hello from Ibach-Schwyz, Texas!
on: March 06, 2010, 04:49:33 PM
Greetings fellow gadget nuts!!  I have been a multitool fanatic for years, but I only recently discovered this site.  I am happy to say that it is just my kind of place.  I am absolutely taken with Victorinox products, and I have never met so many who share the same enthusiasm.  LM's are ok as backups, but I really love Vics.  I hail from Texas, USA.  I see that this site uses Greenwich time, I guess it is based in the good ol UK?   I have always wanted to visit there, but I think the no lockblade policy would be a large obstacle to any sort of permanent arrangement.  Thanks for all the great opinions and poor humor ( :pok: @ gareth)that this site has to offer, I hope to spend many years surfing this wacky forum and maybe becoming a moderator someday!

EDIT:  I am also getting into modding SAKS, I just have to get the cash to load up on pin stock and parts!

The server is in Germany, the designer is in Spain, the programmer is in Argentina, the mods are from the UK and USA, and the whole bloody place is owned by some Canadian guy.  Oh yeah, and the members are from everywhere on the planet!

how does one become a mod?  I am a member (under this same name) at EDCF, CPF, and Knife forums(also a member of SOSAK, as I am sure you are aware).  I would love to become more involved with the online knife and tool community as I really am trying to start up SAK modding.  I asked Tom Meeker about it, he gave me a general idea of what being a forum mod is like, but he is really busy and I am sure he can't even remember my last email on the subject.

You don't want to be a Mod, trust me!  :D  It's all work and no glory. Just because Ben thinks he is a big shot doesn't mean you really want to be a Mod!

When I said "mod" I meant it as short for "Moderator" not guys who mod knives!  Anyone can do that with varying levels of success!

If you meant how do you become a moderator, well that is an unofficial process where we decide whether we need someone new or not, then the existing moderators pick candidates and vote on who they hate the least!  :P

Thank you Gareth.

I think my last post was not processed, so I will say it again.

I am too new here to be the least hated, but I hope that somewhere down the road, I will still be liked enough to be voted in!  I really am a nice guy, and I really am insanely addicted to MTs and SAKs!  My wife probably dislikes my habit enough to vote me in as a mod, maybe then I would be too busy to search the interwebs for new SAK's...

Welcome to the forum from another native Texan. I see you hail from the hill country. I am from North Texas near Denton. I too am a Swiss Army Nut, but I like both manufacturers.

I only have one Wenger knife, and it is a nailclipper.  I would love to get my hands on some traditional Wenger knives though.  I am really interested in getting some (really) used knives from both brands and refurbishing them.

I understand the no pay and recognition issue, but a cross dressing bully boy for a boss?

but seriously, I won't rule out the idea in the future.  Of being a mod, not a cross dressing bully boy.  That just ain't my cup of tea!

Welcome aboard. You really want some Wenger stuff. You don't know what you’re missing until you have some of their weirder knives.

Man, the mods here are quite a bit more colorful and involved than EDCF.  Maybe I just don't read the threads they post the most in, but it seems a bit more laid back on MT.O
