I just paid the most I've ever paid for a custom knife. I sold a whole bunch of stuff and bought me a custom Emerson MV-4 Viper in mint condition. I know a bunch of you guys will think I'm out of my mind, but here is my new way of thinking. I would rather have one really nice knife than 10-12  $100 knives. I plan to make this knife my main edc for a long, long time.  :D

What is the most you would pay for a knife?

Here is my baby:

So how long before that one's gone as well then?  :D

£200 Is probably top end for me.  My Sebbie was £150 but given the funds I would go over that.
I'm back!!

You have to hold one to appreciate it. The zero ground blade is simply amazing. The entire knife was made by Mr. Emerson himself, a man that I truly respect.  :tu:

If it was something I used every day, maybe.  But only if it had something to justify the price like being made of a special steel, damascus or having fancy handle materials.

I'd pay enough to be divorced as soon as i bought it. ::) >:D

Seriously though..a well made blade is something to blow some money on and have something worthy of your hard earned cash. It's like a viking's sword, a ninja's katana, a rapier for todays man.

nice blade btw GG :tu:

i'd be checking my pockets every 2 minutes making sure it's there ...like ocd

  • I like big butts and I cannot lie
well for me at least depends on the use / concept i am buying something
if is for EDC then maybe aroud 50 or 70 USD is top for me, since i would hate to lose it
if is from collector point of view then can go as high as i can / need to get :)

$700 on a knife......not even if I won the lottery.

There is a level at which your reach the point of limited returns. The more knives get expensive the less useful they become. There is only so much craftsmanship, metal, and other materials that can go into a knife...regardless whose name is on it...there is always another built of similar quality that can be had cheaper.

I have a CRKT M16-04 that has been a companion of mine for over a decade. It's done everything I have needed a knife to do, and then some. It's even seen some mild abuse, uses for which it was never designed to do, and came out unscathed. To this day it's still none the worse for wear aside from the edge which has been sharped many a time, and some slight rust that pops up on occassion.

For a locking folder I could not of ask for more. No Chris Reeve, Elishewitz, Crawford, Onion, Terzuola, Tighe, Henry, Ryan, Osborne, Emerson, or any other Custom could have served me better. This is not to say they don't build a beautiful workhorse of a knife, but for me the cost is not equal to the performance......and for that kind of money the performance I would expect is not realistic. And while I appreciate quality craftsmanship, there is a limit to how much craftsmanship I am willing to pay for. And considering I own flawless F&F knives built by production manufacturers I am not all that impressed by the same from a Custom maker who wants several times more for his.

When it comes to knives, be they lockers, slippies, or fixed blades........I pretty much hit my peak at around the $200 mark. I have paid a bit more than this for some customs but even they have fallen below the $300 mark which has become that level at which I have thus far refused to cross. When knives get into the price range of guns, I'd rather have a new gun!

The price I payed for my Umnumzaan is the highest I would ever go. I don't think I would buy another knife again that high.

In short, no.  Don't get me wrong what you have there is a great looking knife, but even if I had a lottery win I don't think I could spend that much on a knife.  While I don't think I've ever spent more than £100 on a knife I have spent nearly £300 each on a sword or two. :)
