Leatherman USA on Facebook said the MUT gets released on the 15th of September.
Don't know if stores will have inventory before the 15th, or have to wait like everyone else.

Or the state of Michigan a number of years ago tried to classify multitools as "burglar's tools" so they could be outlawed!

I was just looking around on Amazon and saw that one of the sellers there is showing the MUT in stock. I didn't think these were even shipping yet.

In case anyone missed it. . .

I am still taking preorders for the MUT.(and yes, Charter Members get a price break.)

Send a PM if you want more information or look up the thread in this forum or in the Charter Members Forum.

I wonder how easy it'd be to replace the punch, scraper and saw from the MUT with the scissors, blade exchanger and awl from a Surge.

Oh the temptation...

Been harping about wanting an awl with thread loop because of a boot issue I had when I was a wildland firefighter. Like them small awls on the PST, yet the Vista's awl is perty aggressive!

If was going to scrap a tool to take an awl from the Vista's awl would be my choice! Thing is sharpened on both sides, and it would be great for boring holes. Yet a small awl might be a good idea to have too. With the blade exchanger in place of the scraper, you could have all sorts of extra tools there.

Punch might make for a nice & sharp triangular heavy needle to screw in there (could double as a weapon too) - Mr510 prolly is already on top of that. :D

Scissors could be also placed into the blade exchanger, although don't know about the clearance issue if it was to be folded up. Where was you thinking of putting them?

Well, it's a little hard to tell without actually handling the tool.  But it looks like on the MUT, the punch and scraper are P shaped so they can wrap around the dual bit holders, but the saw seems to have a full slot similar to the knife so I think the scissors/blade exnchanger could fit into there.   The scraper actually looks like it would make a GREAT awl, if only it were made of a tougher metal.    Not quite sure exactly what I could do with the punch, at the very least I'm sure I could find a way to squeeze a bit holder extension on there for storage.  We'll see what I come up with when I finally get one :)

The threaded triangular needle I was referring to was similar to an English glover's needle. Thread the end of that into the punch.  >:D

Incidentally, the S needle I used with my Super Tool's awl to repair my boots (wildland firefighting days) a few years back & the nylon thread was recently found. Super Tool's awl, this S needle, and the same spool of government braided nylon thread saved my job & my foot!

Had to share it.

Leatherman obviously built these to be modular. I wonder why they aren't introducing additional componets with them.  Adding a blade exchanger on the saw side would fit in with the modular theme though So it would make sense for that to be incorporated at some point.  Any update on the release date?

We kind of have a release date. This was posted on the Leatherman Facebook page.

Dale & Jon,
We have created a few hundred MUT's to date but have not shipped them yet! They should ship next week! With what information I currently have the release date should be sometime in the next 7-10 days. It will definitely be worth the wait! Let me know if you have any other questions. Michael @LTG

Waiting, just not so patiently.
