New work bag
« on: April 28, 2010, 08:30:35 pm »
Got this for work a couple of weeks ago as my old bag was falling apart. I like the new one as it has 3 easy to access compartments, so I can group gear.

In the outer pocket resides tools and accessories. There is a Swisstool Spirit X, Stanley 4 head screwdriver, sidecutters, network cables, and cable ties.

The middle pocket contains miscellaneous items. There is a Fenix LD10 torch with white diffuser tip, spare batteries, light sticks, first aid kit, pens, hand sanitizer, Tom Tom sat nav, phone charger, spare house keys and survival blanket.

The inner pocket contains a pair of gloves and a goretex jacket. There is room for my laptop if required.

Nice. I never used to be much of a fan of North Face gear, but my opinion is changing of late.

That looks a nice bag to me :)

My brother has one of those that he takes hiking, to school, etc..  Its a great versatile bag.  I am an owner of many many Northface items but I am comming to realize that they are not exactly rugged outdoor equipment for the price you pay.  Right now I am using a second-hand Camelbak and it is quite a  beast. Not to say Northface isn't good, they should just think twice about charging a king's ransom. :)

After "wasting" a decade or so flirting with the fashion side of outdoor wear, TNF has finally decided to come around back to cutting edge outdoor clothing and gear.  I have a very nice TNF soft shell with hood that is extremely nice.

This pack looks like a continuation of that trend.  Very nice.

I do own a Northface Apex Bionic that I've worn almost every day below 45 degrees for the last four years. Its great!  I also have a pair of low cut hiking boots I got on clearance for $25(I think they were originally $80 or something), I wore them almost everytime I went hiking.  Also a Venture rain jacket, don't get one. No ventilation, you're as wet as you would be if you just didn't wear anything cuz of the condensation. I got a down? jacket at a garage sale for $3 and it keeps me seriously warm in 20 degree weather and I can still wear it in 40 degrees and be fine.

Mr Whippy- I am very glad they are going to start making what they originally set out to provide.  TNF is sort of a "Guess" or "Gucci" of the outdoor world as of current.  marketing it as fashion prob makes more money, but it treads in the middle of "adventurer" and "fashionista."  IMO they should just pick one and go all the way with it.

That's exactly my take on it Mr. W. I've mostly bought Berghaus gear in recent years, but I picked up some TNF shirts at the end of last year, which in turn made me look again and they do seem to be getting "back to basics". Fair play to them.
