Its like a lot of things, my first watch a bought for my self in 83 was a dw5000 so to this day i still love G-shocks and casios as they last and are as tough as a tank, although these days i prefer the protrek range as like the functions, and they are whoppers and anything else seems small now  :D

I like G-Shocks because they're cheap(ish) and they practically last forever.
Small ones are available, and that's good because I have pretty skinny wrists.

It's the kind of watch that you can strap on your wrist and never take it off.

You guys are right, in fact, many of the G-Shocks look somewhat bulky. Reminds me of the GX-56, that one is huge. I don't have the large wrists to pull it off myself. However, a lot of them actually wears quite comfortably. And smaller sized models are available, like the G-1000, AWG-100, G-7700, and the G-Cool series.

Still, I understand that it may not be everyone's style. Just like how I'm not into dive watches. Do have a couple of them though, the bezel is kind of interesting.

Top-Gear-24, thanks for the link. Yes I'm a member there as well. It's tough when you are into so many things (tougher for our pockets!). I can definitely relate to that. Like they say, it's a 'happy problem'.
You have the right tool... but do you know how to use it the right way?

I got two more G's recently. Liking the old schoolness of the DW-5600E and loving the Mudman.

Brings my G-Shock collection to this.

Nice collection!
I like Mudman, but I simply hate those 6 bumps on the caseback...

The forum warned me that this thread hasn't been commented on in a while. However, I figure this is the best place to ask my question.

I just got my G-shock 6900 and it is awesome. The only issue I can find is that I don't see anywhere in the manual instructions for turning off the beep that occurs every time you hit the mode button. Does anyone know if it is possible to turn this off on this model?

I also have a 6900 and I'm 99% certain that we're stuck with that beep.  I didn't see anything in the manual about it.

To "mute" your G-Shock, try this:

While in timekeeping mode, keep pressing the lower left button for about three seconds. that should mute the button tones.  Repeat to turn mute of.

Hope this works for your watch  ;).

Sadly, this did not work. I suppose this is something I will get used to. I like the watch too much to get rid of it.

I knew this worked on my Casio Protrek and on my Casio G-Shock Riseman, so I thought it would work on any G-Shock, now I remember that I also have a very old DW6900 (I only wear this one at work) which is a bit different than most of the 6900's I've seen (see pic).  Anyway, just tested it on that one and you're right, sadly enough it does not work ...  :-[

My old and trusty DW6900, lot of battle scars, but still working great  8).

There is explanation how to turn off the button operation tone on page 5 in the manual for 6900.
here's the manual:

I don't know about the others but that doesn't work either on my 6900 ...  :(

I think Sawman was right when he said he was 99% certain that we're stuck with that beep.

The link to the instruction is for the 'Updated solar and solar/atomic G and GW-6900 model, The old DW-6900, 6600 models and most any other old G-Shock will beep every time you hit the mode button.

BTW: The DW-6900 was available with quite a big selection of different modules.

Look here:

http://watchshock.com/archive/Casio/G-Shock/DW-6xxx/

Or check in to the Watchuseek G-Shock forum.

http://watchshock.com/archive/Casio/G-Shock/DW-6xxx/

But be warned - They´re addictive.

And here is one i have modified:

Bead blasted the bezel ring, buckle and pushers, removed teh colour in the lettering.

A blacked out DW-6600 variant:

And a G-3011 with bead blasted bezel ring, blacked out resin case on a lowlight Maratac:

This is not heavily modified, but with memory for vital statistics, morse code ability and some other cool funtions the DW-8800 Codename is some cool gadget:

Necro!  :)  I've been thinking about getting a G for a whle, but just couldn't justify the cost.  This week though Nelly1974 gave me a deal on one that I just couldn't refuse.  And so, my first G is this monster!

GX56.  This thing is MASSIVE!  :o  Very comfortable though, I quickly got used to it.  It's been on my wrist at work every day since it arrived on Tuesday.  Now to decide which one to get next.  Something smaller for sure, but still a G......
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D
