The one on the left is a lot older (I'm guessing) the finish is a lot nicer and a nicer stamp,
Abingdon (Town near Oxford maybe?), No 0,  King Dick, Trade * (a picture of a dogs face (or ugly man)) Mark

That would be a Bulldog, I have one of those king dick mini-shifter wrenches and the odd whitworth spanner.

Must say I'm impressed with vintage English steel, industry standards seemed to have slacked off in the 70's.

Yes we used to be at the top years ago, I love old steel  :tu:

They are yours if you would like them Thomas?   :tu:

I bought them because I though they would 'come in handy one day'
I think they might come off an old ammo box, do you want me to measure them?

I haven't found anything else about the vice, I would call it a 'quick release vice' or a 'cam vice'

Thank you - PM me what you´d like for them and what postage will be to Germany. I guiess they are about 3" by 4"?!
I do not have a direct use, but I´ll find a place for them, I´m sure (unless postage kills any fun in this deal...)

The splitting maul looks like a serious bit of business Tony, but then again, so does the Mattock head! :tu:  Is "Mattock" the name of the maker? Around here there are a few pick ax heads that look somewhat similar, but they have pointy tips on both ends for chipping rock, not the flattened blade ends like yours has.

Mattock is the style of head.  If you look closely, the one bitt is a kind of vertically oriented axe thingy.  It's intended for cutting through turf and tree roots.

Split my fair share of firewood with a maul back when.  7 pounds is a good size for the job.

The mattock is a cutter mattock.  There is also a pic mattock.  The cutter mattock is a great tool for digging up roots and chopping roots out of holes.

I probably didn't need a 7lb maul to make a handful of kindling for a small garden fire  but....

I understand completely. You had to test it out!  I've known people that lived in apartments that owned chainsaws because the apartment had a fireplace.

I turned out for a VERY cold boofair this morning (at a stupid hour for a sunday) wish I'd stayed in bed to be honest  :(
BUT I did pick up a 'faux' maxpedition fat-boy (manpurse ) in a 'not-too' tactical desert-cammo
it was only a fiver and I'm sure I must have some use for it  ::)
