I was given some rust over the weekend

I was asked if I could fix up this cast iron Victorian fireplace insert for someone and I said yes

And was given a  SAKalike with wood scales and a tiny hammer that were dug up in a garden  :D

That's gonna take a lot of vinegar! :D

That hatchet reminds me of the saying from the horse world: "rode hard, put away wet"  :o

I'm guessing you'd be slightly reluctant to lend any of your "good" tools to that particular work mate ?

You should carve a nice wooden handle for the hatchet.

At the moment I’m a bit puzzled by it Mike as I’ve seen pictures of them with a hole in the blade for weight reduction

But it is a cool thing  :salute:  :D

Anyway regardless of whether or not it's real, it's a great piece, and having a built in pickaroon it'll make a great fire side axe :)

I really must not buy any more Axes

(Image removed from quote.)

A big hand-full of Axes

Hi Sparky

This and the Collectors thread are my favourites on MTO, read through them back to front, and very surprised to see something familiar!

I want to ask you about that axe right at the bottom....
I have one just like it, it was used and left behind during an attempted break-in on a friend's small holding.
Mine now!  :D
Mine is stamped "ANGUS", and it have "20 000V" on the rubber handle.
Can't figure out what it's for or where from, but now the UK seems the obvious answer.

The handle was in a sorry state so I removed and replaced it with rope after cleaning and resharpening.
It's small but heavy and just eats through wood.....

Any more info would be welcome..

Cheers'
Gerhard

Welcome to my favourite thread Gerhard  :salute: :D

That is an ARPAX which stands for Air raid patrol/prevention axe
These were made in WW2 and were issued to air raid wardens for rescue duties (and firemen)
They were made by a few different companies e.g. ELWELL, CHILLINGTON but I’ve not heard of ANGUS

Can we see some pictures of yours Please  :tu:
