I just received an email from the Leatherman Marketing Communication Manager. She confirmed that what I have are indeed two Leatherman prototypes that got lifted from the Factory at some point to be eventually sold to me. That means I have ultra rare Leatherman Charges that are official prototypes that were never made for the market.  :ahhh :ahhh

I am floored right now. I was fairly certain they were very well made custom mod jobs. Not factory prototypes. Oh and they are DLC coated but black instead of the brown used on the Damascus Wave.

NO WAY!  How could you be sure they were the same ones?  Were there serial numbers or something?  Not that it would make sense for the tools to appear in any other way...

You sir, have just become the permanent envy of every single Multi tool user from now until the end of time.

More pics?

Very cool Chako.

I feel a bit sorry for whoever did the "lifting" though - maybe some vacancies coming up in Oregon......

No worries. I sent them photos of my Leatherman stuff when I inquired. They seemed quite pleased that their lost prototypes found themselves in my collection. They even expressed interest in those painted Leatherman's I have. I also passed all the information I had of the eBay seller to them. The guy may or may not have lifted them, but he knew what they were, and he is currently selling the 0000/1000 Damascus Wave online...which I presume was stolen as well. I will let Leatherman pursue it if they wish.

I have to ask:  Going for that Damascus Wave? :D

I'm glad to hear they won't be trying to retrieve their items; in all fairness, you did legally purchase the items, and it's not up to you to find out if the items are actually the seller's (heck, how would you have known?), which, IMO, does put you in the clear - especially since their being in your collection will most likely spurn others into buying more Leatherman multis, too.  So the prototypes being safe in your collection + your collection spurning others (and yourself) to buy more Leatherman + Leatherman knowing the prototypes are nice and safe with you = happy closure for all. :tu:

Also:  :D

Maybe you should add a note about the seller in Feedback, so others can stay clear..  :)

Congrats again Dan! :salute: These tools were (and are) beautiful regardless of where they came from, but the fact that they have genuine Leatherman origins makes them that much better! I'd recommend printing out that reply you got from the marketing manager and keeping it with the tools, sort of like a certificate of authenticity if you know what I mean. :)
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools
