As I recall you already have a 2HO Charge and it would be very wrong to heat that one up..  :pok: ;)

Well the first Charge just came in the door, and I must say, I am a bit impressed with it. You can tell that the finish is a bit different from a standard BO, and the seller claims it is a DLC coating. If so, everything got coated, even the blade grinds. The seller claimed it is a Leatherman Prototype. Not sure if this is even remotely correct or if someone just decided to custom coat a Charge TTi. Either way, it is an interesting addition. I will hence forth call the new addition the oddball for want of a better term.

You guessed it, photo time.

(Charge TTi, Charge BO Ti, and the oddball TTi).

(Same order as the first photo).

Comparing the Ti BO(first photo) with the oddball (second photo).

(Note the difference in finish of the oddball in the middle compared to the black oxide covered Ti above it).

I do not know much about DLC coatings. What I can say is the oddball has a nice finish that is very different to black oxide deposition.  I did find something very pretty on the inside of the oddball. It sort of reminded me of Loepis’s flamed Charge.

Well that is it for the oddball. Now I am just waiting for the Damascus TTi from the same seller. Photos of that will be added when it comes in.

For what it's worth, it's a beautiful Charge, Chako; IMO, it's much better looking than the typical BO offerings. o.o  I mean, look at how well "Leatherman Charge" is shown on the side... actually - and wonderfully - presented, and not just a blob, as with regular BO. :/

It's a beautiful TTi Chako .. :tu:
Agree with Sazabi, this black TTi much better looking than the Leatherman regular BO.

If it's a DLC coating, is it have the same finishing as Skeletool CX or Wave 20th anniversary Chako?
After i see the rainbow color inside the handle, it's look like a heating process or anodized, CMIIW

Whatever with the coating process, it has a smooth finishing, nice black TTi indeed...
Congrats Chako

Yes the inside does tell that heat was used. What the finish is however, I do not know. Is heat used in the DLC process? As far at the finish goes, it looks different to the 20th Wave, but very similar to the Skeletool CX. I take it that the finish varies from piece to piece (Is that correct?).

Can you determine whether the coating was applied to the individual components before assembly, or was the whole thing coated after being assembled? ???

Yes, the coating was applied to the individual components before assembly. I checked all the nooks and crannies that would show missed spots if it were the later, and none were found.

Thanks Chako ...
I also do not know about the DLC coating process :D
I just guess a colors that appears inside is like through a heat or anodized process.
Whatever that, it's a serious job... and the result is very nice.
