Watch project,
« on: June 25, 2010, 08:05:22 am »
Ok ive been working on this for a while now, in fact the movement ill be using ive tested over a 3 year period, so, whats it all about, right ive decided to make a batch of  watches, ive got cases sorted/straps/dials/hands/movements/and crystals im still deciding on, im going to have the first one made in around a months time, i will test this for Water resistance, ill post a pic here of how they might turn out, i will make them to order and will only be available here, I have also spoke to def about a possible future M.T.O special. ill post a few pics up,  :tu:ill add more pics when i build the first watch,  :tu: i have to add ill try and keep the price as low as i can, ive sourced the best parts for the money, so im hoping to keep the price for a good quality reliable automatic  watch  with my personal 1 year guarantee at around £50,

Sounds interesting, I've been looking into getting a new watch. Any idea on the price and will the battery be user replaceable?

yeah but you a fussy sod neil   ;) i could source a dial with numbers on it and possibly a bezel insert with all numbers, would be a one off and these arent too chunky neil, around 39,5mm , once i get this built ill send it to you for you too see, then send it back and ill source the parts you need if happy, i can get a explorer type case thats smaller but would only have min markers,

ok here you go,
case-stainless steel , submariner type 39,5mm working bezel, oss 200m WR
crsystal-well , could be domed mineral with cyclops, or acrylic with cyclops, i prefer acrylic as easy to re-polish and more vintage looking, although i might only put these on the aged dialed versions,
strap- nato, green/black/grey/bond/= or oyster style SS bracelet .
movement- 17j seagull automatic. very reliable and serviceable, and cheap on parts and replacement,
Hands- Mercedes type,Lume to be tested on the dials and hands but should be bright, duller on aged version,

more pics,
grey nato

SS bracelet.

Wow, that looks amazing.  I am very interested in a bracelet style.  I'm just curious about something, are automatics with Chrono known to be unreliable in general?   I had a costly swatch chrono automatic that died practically out of the box (twice).  Got our money back and now have a nice seiko quartz.

I'm very interested in one of these, especially since you are making it!

im not a fan of chronograph watches, there is more mechanics to this type of movement, hence more to go wrong, unless you spend a lot of money i would avoid them, also if your not going to use the crono then its a waste of time, these movements im using are copies of swiss ETA mvnt's and i have to say that the Chinese can copy most things and these days there even better, as i said ill personally guarantee my work for 1 year, but of course after that i dont mind doing services etc, but TBh that should be for a good 4-5 years,     ive had a few of these movements and 1 of the watches i have it in ive had for 2 years and ive not even regulated it yet and it keeps very good time, i have to say quartz keeps better time if its a good movement, but for me doesnt have the soul of a mechanical watch.
