Please help me ID this!
« on: June 29, 2010, 07:38:28 PM »
Can anyone help me identify this retractable spring-loaded steel tape?
The tape is 64 inches long and there is no any measering marks on it.
Thank you.

Most likely used when you just need to compare distances rather than measure them.  For instance in a game of bowls.

They made all sorts of tapes, rules, levels etc.  I have a couple of their rules.

Here's a bit of background... http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=2746-rab&cid=-1#-1

Its a lovely looking thing
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

That's lovely. I think Rabone stuff in good condition is fairly collectable. Having looked for a nice old tape measure for a while, I was surprised to see the prices they go for  :o
