SOG Assembled in USA but Manufactured in China? or Where?

Was interested in getting a sog tool, but after visiting their website are they made in USA or just assembled here? I bought a few Gerbers assembled in USA but made in china and they were junk.

As near as we've been able to determine, the current SOG multitool components are imported (from Taiwan?) and assembled in the U.S.

That being said, I for one haven't found them to be of any lesser quality than the older entirely-made-in-USA SOG tools.

My issue isn't with the quality but the price. If they are made in Taiwan they should lower the price. I hate when companies switch from the US to overseas and then keep the same retail price. It makes me think that their company is only about one thing, greed!    I love SOG's, but I might only buy them on the used market from now on.

I said the same thing about the Leatherman Charges- the original titanium models used to retail around $100, now the aluminum models are $100 and the titanium model is $150.  Seemed like a cash grab to me, but when you think about it, I think it's more of a method of staving off inflation rather than trying to pad profit margins.  Yes, I think a little more is ending up in company coffers as a result of the changes, but I'm not so sure it's as much as we might initially assume.

Or it could be- tragically the major manufacturers don't share the details of their accounting books with me!

It just bothers me that companies start outsourcing production from their own country.

I thought that SOG MT's especially the older ones were made in Japan, or at least their components were.. I remember ordering from Washington state back in the 1990's replacment blades from my Paratool, and seeing them imprinted with the Japanese city "Seki" as well as "Japan" on them..

They said all knives made in Japan,Taiwan,China....and etc.
A great SOG Bowie,which I so like,they sell here in Lynnwood around $300  ,and this knife made in TAIWAN!!!!!!!!!!!

The SOG Bowie knife,for me,is the best design knife (+ Ka-Bar  ),but the reason why I don't have it......because its made in Taiwan.

Convincing argument. Please explain where the quality slipped, and how the quality of SOG's from taiwan are less than other places.  This could be helpful information, or it could be a load of bull.

It's rather how it's made than where it's made. Older SOG use directly molded on hard plastic handle whereas new one use pre-made soft rubber sock that slips onto the tang. My NW ranger is like that too, the pre-made rubber handle simply doesn't fit precisely enough.
