I have the original Wave that I bought in 1999.  This was my first "real" multi tool (my "first" was a $7.00 no-name piece of junk I got at a auto parts store - I still have it somewhere in the garage), and I got it because of the outside locking blades.  After reading an article on duty blades, the author made a good case for carrying the Wave over carrying just a locked blade knife.  I found a sporting goods store that had the Wave on sale, and bought one.  Unfortunately, the Wave came with a brown leather sheath (I needed a black nylon sheath for my Sam Browne), so it took awhile before I found a suitable sheath and was able to carry it at work.  The Wave has come in handy many times, and has never let me down.  I have since started carrying a Charge AL at work (due to having all locking tools), and now use the Wave during my off hours.
