Heres my closed wave with rebar plier geads and scissors - as you can see it closes.. I have no idea how or why.. it just does..
It still have the scissors? Unmodified scissors?

Yes completely unmodified... see first photo.. :)

Thinking of picking up a used Wave.  Do you guys generally prefer the New or Original Wave?  I am leaning towards the original.  (I can't imagine using an eyeglass screwdriver on a full size multitool.)

I wish I could say it was a triumph of engineering or thinking.. but its not. Im actually not sure - I intended on modifying the scissors but when I swapped the head it closed straight away with no issues... I have no idea why or how! Sorry!

Hey All,

New here and glad I found the site. And now I'm a member of the Wave owners club! Just picked up my first 'New' Wave at my local Fred-Meyer store - listed at 20% off and had a coupon for another 10% off. Paid $57.59 before tax (with the 'premium' sheath). They had the Rebar for $39.99 and a couple other models (Wingman and Sidekick I think) that I forget the prices off-hand.

Attached pics show my Wave in the package and then taking care of its first important task.

Curious - the plier joint and plier attachment joint were pretty stiff but seem to be loosening up already, should I put a drop of 3-in-1 oil on it, just leave it be, or ?

Cheers,
Allen

That's what I figured :)

I'm really amazed at how much I've used the Wave in the short time I've owned it. Besides opening a few  bottles, I've used the pliers to move an adjustable shelf whose pins were super tight and also removed the nasty burr from the tip of a chefs knife I was sharpening. The Wave's diamond file made short work of that!

Cheers,
Allen

Anyone know the Security Torx bit size for the original wave. The smallest I got is #10 and it's too big.

It may be #5, but I'm not totally sure   I'm sure someone knows.

Thanks Monrogue. What I got is the commonly available 6 spline security torx bit which I believe is called TR10 and fits the new Wave. The older Wave needs the 5 spline security torx bit you mentioned, the TS10 which is harder to find. Your reply put me on the right track to find the answer.

Three times this week I've been outbid in the final 10s of eBay auctions for an original Wave.  Three times!  I am a member of the Wave almost-owners club.   :(

Well the good thing is there still are many of those available, so I'am sure you'll get it sooner, later, one way or another

Made the jump and ordered a Wave with the bit-kit and bit driver extender.
I really like it. It is indeed American like a pick-up truck. Rugged, honest design and all function. So much utility.
Wear it in the nylon case horizontal on the belt.

I bought a Surge for myself, as I preferred the externally-accessible scissors and interchangeable T-shank blades to the saw on the outside of the Wave.

But then I made the mistake of buying a Wave for my brother. It feels much better in my smaller hands than the giant Surge.

So I just ordered up a Wave on FeeBay. $54 shipped, for a new 2015 one. Is that a good deal? I felt like it was, after seeing that Lowes wants $90 for them.

See you again after it lands.  8)

Yeah, those sniper bids. I think I am getting good at it. I use my phone, set an alarm with 2 mins to go if I really want it, set my max I am willing to pay and then with 5 seconds to go press, kneel and pray.

I think that's as good as it gets for a brand new wave. Congrats!

Just got an original Wave (stamped "Tool" not "USA") on eBay (with leather sheath) for $36 shipped.  According to the pictures it looks like it is in great condition.  No rust, blades (appear) to have good edges, undamaged cutters, the file looks unused.

I am very excited.   :multi:  I'll post some (crappy) pics when it comes.

Yeah, I used this strategy. I felt kind of bad sniping on a bidder who had been bidding for days at the last minute.  I know how irritating it is to be winning as of the last 10s or so. Cest la vie.

Quick question -- what's the difference between the "new" Wave and the "original/old" Wave?  Thanks!

oh, I just realized that the new one has the bit changer....is that the only difference?

The new wave has beefier plier heads and blades.  It also has all-locking tools whereas the old wave only has locks on the outside blades.

Additionally, the tool complement outside the four main blades is quite different.  The new wave has two bit drivers, whereas the old wave didn't have the bit slots and just gave you screwdrivers.  I think the scissors on the knew wave are also smaller than the old wave?

This video might help you:

I added a Wave to my growing collection. They had a 'kit' offered at Dick's Sporting Goods and I went for it at $89.95 with the double bit set and nylon sheath with flashlight pockets. Turned out they only had one in stock and the P3 Lenser flashlight was missing so the guy at the counter offered to take $10 off and I told him it needed to be $20 so I could buy the P3 light....He agreed  :D so I'm in with the kit in stainless for $69.95US. I picked up the P3 light  on Amazon and added the bit driver as well.

That set me off on a kick of buying the Squirt PS4 and the Juice CS4....it's a sickness...Now am waiting for my Maxpedition Fatty to come with UPS today.

I can't believe my luck, got the following beauty off eBay for $36 shipped, with pristine leather sheath.  The tool looks unused.  Great condition.  Given the low closing price I was expecting some horrible defect, but man, this was a steal; I can't believe my luck.   :D

Great score NetsNJ :tu:  Mine was around the same price and also appeared unused.  No sheath though, but that was fine with me.
