Leatherman Pulse
« on: July 21, 2010, 01:42:59 am »
I finally have one on the way.  Brand new, got it for $29.99 plus s&h on Ebay.  It should arrive sometime next week.  I can't believe the price, I have yet to see one under $50, and only one at that price.  Most I've seen are around $80.  I think out of all the LM tools, this is the one I have wanted the most for the longest.  Sort of a Unicorn.  Every time one comes up for sale, I am broke and can't swing the cash.  This time the deal was too good and I had to hop on it.

They truly are one of the best tools with the best config they possibly have ever made.  I wish I knew where I had lost mine to.

I told myself a year ago that the Pulse was the perfect EDC combo for me.  It really is sweet, and after handling a crunch and a few older LM's like the PST, sideclip, and ST200(specifically the ST200), I knew I had to have one.  I am practically drooling in anticipation of this tool arriving.  What sucks is I am going on a weeklong vacation on thursday so I get to think about it the entire time I am in Canada.

I got one some time ago, it was one of those that has Microsoft Software stamped on one side. I paid $21 for the tool, the sheath and the gift tin, all in new condition. Ebay is full of oportunitys!

I came home from abroad to find my new pulse waiting in my mailbox!!  As the Ebay description said, the sheath shows a little wear, but the tool is indeed untouched.  It has a little bit of grime from the oil collecting dust, but other than that it is absolutely perfect!  Pics will come when I get time, I have severe jetlag and I really don't feel like setting up a shot and pulling out my camera tonight.  Thanks for all the responses!

After playing with it for awhile, I am confused as to why LM discontinued it.  It is essentially a perfected PST.  I like the lock system, and the rolled edges make it slimmer and more solid feeling than my blast and kick.  Other than the tool clumping, it's fantastic.  I will be carrying it a lot in the coming weeks so I will be able to test it out.  I like this Pulse and my Sideclip better than any MT's I have tried.  Ok, the spirit is up there with them both, but that's it!

That was the issue. You either loved the locking system or hated it. I love it, but to be honest and frank, the newer locking system is far more ergonomic and easier to use. It had its day, and now we are past it.

Agreed, the locks are a real issue for some folks.  Personally I really like them though.

Remember though Mercury that the PST bloodline runs from PST-PST II-Pulse up until 2004 where they are then all replaced by the Kick/Fuse/Blast group.  I'd say the only real step backwards was moving from the rolled edge of the Pulse to the Zytel of the newer tools.  Not that I think the Zytel doesn't work, but I do prefer the rolled edge.
