Direct Bolt-In Awl for Wave/Charge
on: July 25, 2010, 07:24:28 AM
Hey gang,

Evil here again with another mod. With all of the current projects I have going on, I probably shouldn't even be messing with little projects like this. However, I had a leftover awl from another project just sitting there begging for me to mod it. I absolutely love my Wave with the monster sized super awl that I fabricated for it. Some have expressed that they too would like an awl for their Wave. The monster sized awl I made is not a direct bolt in because of clearance issues and the tool itself had to be modded. If I made one of these to sell/trade, it would not fit anyway unless the tool had been clearanced. I know some have made a makeshift awl by reshaping the large flat driver. This is a proper, full sized awl from a ST300 that I reshaped, reprofiled and tapered (length kept intact) to be a direct swap into a Wave with no modifications to the tool. I actually have absolutely no use for this because I custom make my own awls from scratch. A possible trade is already in progress so I can obtain parts I could actually use for other pending projects. I have an extra Surge awl staring at me now.....

Your craftsmanship is beyond reproach.  How did you make the 'cutting edge' along the side ?

Final touch to match the standard finish of all of the implements. Bead blasted to give it a nice matte finish.....

At the moment, no. It is however up for trade.....

Bloody nice work that mate :tu:
Thanks Mike!

Thank you Blue Dot. If you are referring to what I called the backside, the ST300 awl already had the channel carved out of it. While I could do this from scratch on a new awl, on this one I just had to touch it up after reshaping and polishing. I use various carbide and diamond bits.....

Amazing as usual!  I hope it finds a good home >:D
Thank you Charger. As far as I am concerned, it already has a home in your Wave/Charge. It is ready to be sent out. Let's get this trading triangle going with DaveK.....

Absolutely top notch!
