I found the same with the pliers Marlowe. Great for pulling hair out of a drain or the odd reach and grab. One unexpected use I found is using the little indent on the pivot as a thimble to push a needle, then pulling the needle using the actual pliers. Surprisingly useful, but again rarely needed for EDC.   [ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]

I'll have to try and remember that one.  :tu:

Hey, that's a pretty clever use of the pliers!

Yeah, I think the pliers are great but I just haven't had enough use out of them to justify the weight in the pocket to have them all the time. There is always that slight worry in the back of my mind - that if I need them, I will REALLY need them - but, well, you can't carry everything!

Meanwhile, I've been carrying an Explorer for the past couple of days now. I tend to find lots of screwdriver-related uses for a SAK, so it should be a more "natural" fit. And it's a model I am very comfortable and familiar with - I carried one all through Boy Scouts!

Fortunately I had my Classic in my pocket today.  I was assembling some Anderson Power Pole connectors onto a 12V fan and needed a small tool to push the contact into the housing.  The screwdriver tool in the Classic was just the right size as an insertion tool.

Hey thanks all. I have been hacking away learning as I go.  Soon I will get some good full grain nicer leather. The newest is the little slip for my yellow sod buster.

This one for the past few weeks, early 2000's Master Craftsman (Japan market). 5 back tools and newer style file. I put the 58mm keyring, but other than that it's factory Vic.  :salute:

An old mod of mine; a Mechanic with added file.  Very specifically made to ape the tool set of a LM PST.

Love a Rambler. All I actually need from a 58mm SAK.

This wonderful Swiss Champ that my uncle gave to my dad when I was six to hold onto until I was old enough because I just couldn't stop playing with it. He gave it to me when I turned nine; I can't for the life of me actually date the thing though -- no crimper on pliers, and the cap lifter has a 90ª stop. I think he gave it to my dad in about 1996. I keep it in my pocket attached with the Victorinox belt hanger, and it's in an iPod sock when in my pocket. I carried an emerald compact for the last three years until TSA confiscated it :(

For me, this combo seems to work just fine (Compact and Bushcrafter mod).
I could carry a FX or a Huntsman instead, but I like this setup better, so I can
have a clean blade and a dirty blade. Also, I think two thin SAKs are easier to
carry than a single big one.
