I just got this old girl from Jaydar.
A 49 Wenger Soldier.
Would I be crazy to EDC it?

I don't know the age of mine (how do I know?) but I've been carrying it for a couple of days now. It's heavy, it has less functionality than most new ones, mine's a bit scuffed (and the blade snaps into the liner resulting in a dull point) but it's oh such a nice knife.

If I understand it right, the ones that where issued was marked with production year stamped on the tang.

Not at all.  Minimal SAK challenge.  :pok: :pok:

Tempting, but Im going to need the SAW on my SAKs a lot in the coming month, so I cant exclusively carry a 2layer right now. ;)

You must have a folding saw.  If not, get a Bahco Laplander and join in the challenge. :tu:

This is my first ever Ranger. I wanted a Camping ranger for, get this, camping.

I like how it's got the newer metal file and chisel, which should come in handy whittling birds out of twigs.

And now Smeen and Sheila will have a new friend...

Les presento a mi nuevo amigo Nacho.

I already have Fender Telecaster named Nacho so I had to grab this one. Great name for a SAK i'm taking on desert adventures.

If I outbid somebody on here, good game my friend.

First thing I did when I unwrapped it was try out the pruning blade on the packaging, it's a satisfying cutter.
I never had any SAK that had this blade before, so I'm a happy camper.

I've had, and used, several Harvesters. IMO the pruning blade is a tad too thin, the tip bends very easily. I prefer my Baladeo hawkbill now. Nevertheless, the Harvester is a great knife, so congrats on this one!

Just got this "Handyman" (actually a Craftsman) for US$21.50, not bad. Whats interesting to me is it looks like the newer type metal file, yet it has no crimper on the pliers...where my other one has the older case-hardened metal file, yet has the crimper...so that's weird...didn't think the newer file would be found with older pliers.

Got a keyring and some yellow scales waiting for it...gonna be a gift for my friend after the clean-up.

Cheers all, keep'em coming, collect them all.

JJ...nice pickup on the Craftsman.   :tu:

Have a similar situation, an old 6-layer Champion (before they added the magnifier and inline Phillips) that is in very good condition.  This one has the pre '73 small clip blade, scraper grind on the inside of the cap lifter, no nail cleaner on the file, and a long nail file on the back.  Pretty early.  And a pair of scissors with a rivet and alignment groove for the spring.  What???  Finally figured out that it was sent back to Vic for repair.  Perhaps why it is in very nice shape.  Don't mind, it is a nice carry piece.  Maybe you have the same situation.

Wow!
Never expected my post filled with nothing to get that many quotes...

I was feeling a little to jumpy and posted a pic of my new swisstool spirit, which is in fact, NOT a SAK... I guess... Right?

So, back on topic.
My latest SAK is a late 80's Mountaineer.
Bought it at a flea market in near mint condition for just €4/$4.5.
Just needed a thorough clean and polish.
