What year did the inlay tent/teepee get replaced with the hotstamp tent?
My Ranger is my only Camping SAK currently and it has the (IMO) least-cool variation of screened tent AND screened cross. Has the latest metal file, but that printed cross seems like a cut-corner money-saver on Vic's part.
Always looking on ebay for beaten up inlay tent SAKs to harvest scales and buff them out.
But in all cases I love the camping design! Were there ever any blue or black Camping scales? I've seen the fish on blue.

I think it was pretty recently
I bought a Ranger in about 2013 - it had the inlay - But now they all seem to be hot stamped.
If you look at the 2015 catalogue - Part of the code for the knife indicates the method of marking the scales - And they all say hot stamped
(Note: This is just from memory/theory and not checking the doc too carefully)

Agree with you - This was a poor move by Vic - as all the inlays are lovely - But the hot stamps ........ Not so great.
- Put the thumb on this emoticon upside down  :tu:

I think historically they used both - But not sure when/how/why etc - Maybe inlays for regular line - Hot stamp for Elinox/Economy!!
JB would know :)

Yeah my Ranger is just printed on there, as in not a chrome stamp or inlay, just regular printing like an advertisement knife would have and even the Vic logo cross is just printed. But if little things like these keep jobs in Switzerland then fair enough. Creates a nice mystique around the old ones.

I recently traded a Grand Prix mod with Gareth but decided I missed it so built another.

Used a file spring that can accept a back tool and fitted the flat driver instead of the chisel.  No nail file hook on this one, unfortunately.

Just won this Classic off the bay.

Does anyone recognize the crest?

I searched the inter-web-age for a hour or more last night researching this knife  :D ...... I couldn't find anything for that coat of arms.
Sure is an interesting one, nice snag!
my keywords i searched goggle & yahoo for: Coat of Arms , Ram , Green, yellow , castle , tower , black Ram ,  jumping Ram , leaping Ram.... i searched "images" also with the words jumbled in many diff orders/ways.

Red Spartan with an interesting shield. (The normal Vic shield is on the back, with toothpick.)
As far as I can tell IGBE was a German mining company (that is no more)

The Rhine Falls at Schaffhausen are awesome, been there two years ago. You can take a boat trip to the small island.

Wow, way to make a man feel bad mate.  ;)  If it's any kind of consolation my Grand Prix has been my "go to" SAK ever since I got it. :salute:

$26.75 shipped, early morning Woodsman snag.

Cheaper than a Mexico reissue anyway. Saw some Huntsman Lites for around the same price but I dig the earlier 80s vibe of this one with the smooth backside, screw sciss', fluted, crossbow, gray mag etc. I guess between '85 and '91?

Love that colour combo, really works well! The Electrician is particularly awesome! Where did this run originate from? Not heard of that one

It was ordered by a fishing club in Switzerland. Really hard to find.
