I bought a Maxpedition 4" sheath
« on: August 05, 2010, 07:06:08 PM »
I got a maxpedition 4" sheath which is supposed to hold up to 5" items, but it doesnt have the width to accomodate any of my multitools (in particular a ST300 or SOG PL).  I suppose this would make a great sheath for some SAKs, so I will keep it.  My question:  Is the 5" one wider / will it accomodate multi-tools?

The SOG PowerLock will fit tightly in the 5 inch Maxpedition flashlight sheath.  I tried it without the handle covers.  I don't know if it would fit in the sheath with handle covers because the covers make the PowerLock even wider.

I would look elsewhere for a holster for these large multitools.  Too tight a squeeze if you want to use the 5" Maxpedition as a belt holster and be able to easily remove and replace the tool.

On the other hand, the original Leatherman SuperTool fits this holster more easily because it is narrower.

Wrong sheath. That's a flashlight sheath. You wanted the "Single Sheath" like this one:

It fits a Surge with no problem.  :salute:

not to thread jack but those who have this sheath, how do you have it on your belt?  i dont like wearing mine vertical, i rather have horizontal.  are the loops on it big enough to get a belt through them?

On the 4" the only possible way to wear it is vertical but the wider sheath they recommended to me has straps to go horizontal.

I also use several 4" sheaths on my Maxped bags and they will definitely accomodate a Leatherman Wave or Surge easily.  They have some expandable elastic that stretches nicely.

An update:

I found that the 4" works great for my original super tool and super tool 200  :tu:

ALSO:  I ordered a couple of the actual "sheaths" 5+" and they fit all large multitools very well.  It's important to know that with the sheaths, you can adjust the length of the front flap to accomodate thinner or thicker multitools.  I've worn the new sheath with my ST300 the past few days and I'm very satisfied with it and recommend it for your knives/tools/magazines etc.   :salute:

BTW:  Maxpedition was evil enough to send a magazine featuring all of their products so now I have my eyes on some new travel gear and new wallet to name a couple items.  >:D

And lastly, the quality of these Maxpedition sheaths gets all 5 stars; IMO you definitely get your money's worth
