Got a supertool today and I was looking at a squirt to go along with it. What do you guys think about the squirt series?

I have a few p4 and s4 models, I like the s4 but I still prefer micras. The p4 I have no use for pliers that small. The micas hold up alot better if you carry them on your key chain or in your pocket with change. The scales on the squirts get scratched easy.

Have had the S4 for a few years, and yes the scales do get beat up. S4 has a lot of features, and it's more reliable than any other key chain sized tool I've seen, till the Micra Special Edition came my way after winning a Leatherman 4th of July contest.

The scissors seem beefier, and the tweezers can actually get a hold of them rogue whiskers that feel like stickers! The S4's tweezers are like the Style CS' - wimpy.

If you don't need all the tools in the country on it, get a Micra.

The Squirt series are really nice keychain multi-tools. It is true that they do get beat up, but to some, that battle look is endearing and adds only character. In the old series, you have 3 choices, pliers, Wire stripper, and scissors. Thankfully, the naming convention makes a lot of sense (P = pliers, S = scissors, E = Electrical?). The E4 and S4 come with removable tweezers. They are ok, but are not in the same class as those found on Victorinox knives. So it all depends on what main use you will want one for. Most go with the scissors as the pliers are a bit on the small side...but then, it is a small tool.

With the advent of the new Squirt series, the PS4, and ES4 (personally, I think they should have changed the 4 to a 5 or something as the visuals are a big departure from the older series). These two new tools now carry a small pair of scissors much like the Swiss knives. The finish and shape of the tool is now very different. You now have a grittier textured tool for better grip, and the handles are slightly different supposedly to allow the user to figure out which tools are where without having to look at it. I do not know how the finish will hold up after long term use. Also, the old series are now discontinued, but there are so many out there, you won't see any less stock for years to come. I am also sort of sad to see the S4 go the way of the Dodo. The small scissors in the PS4 and ES4 is no substitute of the larger and nicer pair found in the S4. Guess that will only guarantee that the Micra will be around forever. Likewise, they did without the removable tweezers in the newer Squirts. To some, they were little used and mostly useless, but to others, their inclusion was a nice touch.

So go for one, you have 5 choices. I don’t think you will regret it, or go for the Micra…but the Micra is not a perfect tool either.
