Will I never be satisfied??
« on: August 31, 2010, 03:39:18 am »
So, I really liked my fuse, but wasn't sold completely, so I modded a Wave, and while I really like it, I'm not convinced it's the best.  So I bought a pulse, and I really do like it, but the lock is kind of a pain.  Then I got another knifeless fuse (the first one was lost), and put a knife on it, and it's pretty neat, but wish the file was a diamond coated one.  So, in search of the perfect multi-tool, I bought a NOS PST II, though it doesn't have locks, or the nicer tools of the Fuse, it does have bigger scissors.  I not a collector, I'm just in search of my perfect multitool, light, but sturdy, has most of the tools I need, and is easy to use and carry.  Maybe the PST II is it, maybe I'll have to keep searching.

What tools are you mainly looking for? Maybe its time to try something from a different manufacture. Have you tried the swisstool spirit?

I've thought about a different manufacturer, though (obviously) I really dig leatherman.  I'm pretty hard on american made, american engineered, so it doesn't have to be LM.  Surge is too heavy, Juice is too small.  I have an S2, and while I love the scissors, and the tools are pretty good, they come up short if any length is actually needed, and when I've gone to use the pliers, they are usually inadequate.  Thanks for the suggestions!

Since you seem to be into modding and don't mind a non-locking tool, maybe you should buy a Kick and mod it with the tool assortment that you are looking for.  It would be light weight, have the newer, beefier tools, and be a full size, yet easy to carry tool (especially with pocket clip).  It won't have a diamond file or large scissors though, unless you figure out how to swap over the ones from your PST ll.  If you really want a tool with the diamond file and large scissors, I would recommend looking at the original Wave, as it's got both plus a whole bunch of other tools.  It's also considerably smaller than the new Wave and thus easier to carry, but it's not as beefy as the newer tools.

Oh, and no, it's not likely that you, or any of us around here, will ever be satisfied.  But part of the fun is in the hunt....

You would probably be better off modifying something or having someone create something for you.
Why? Patent rights issues.

That's why there is so much variety in tools is that none can copy the other exactly.

Unless you can modify something you have a stronger affinity for, using tools from other manufacturers, you'll never have the perfect tool due to patent issues.

Create your own tool, patent it, sell it, make your millions.  :o

I think it's like this with everyone. I think manufacturers make imperfect tools on purpose, both so that evil510 will have something to do and so others will buy several models  :ahhh

That's what creates modders, to bring the best of all worlds into one tool. Even then, Mr510 hasn't perfected the ultimate ONE tool.  :tool: /hides

Speaking thereof...
LEATHERMAN CHARGE TTI for $70 - That's really low in price!
http://cgi.ebay.com/LEATHERMAN-CHARGE-TTI-/150486315346?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2309aef152

Was reluctant in posting this as it just seems fishy for half the price of other TTi Charges.

Sell claims free US shipping, half price international. - Don't know the seller, just saw it a few minutes ago.

Well it's only $100 on Amazon, brand new with sheath and bit kit, so... Yes, cheap, but not THAT cheap
