Spork Off!
on: September 02, 2010, 06:47:32 AM
Anyone ever thought of having a Spork (off) competition? Where manufacturers and modders can show off their sporks, and the winner gets some notoriety and/or award? Be perty interesting to see all the Sporks out there in the world!

Link? I have seen references to this guy many times but doing a "show topics" for the only guy with Spork in his member name didn't bring up anything too exciting

Check out the mod sections and search for his threads.  The man is pure genius.  He can turn wood into functional works of art.

You aren't missing anything, you just need to be looking for his posts in the mod section.  He doesn't start threads for every piece he does.

That's what I was thinking until I saw this ;)

As I already brought up in another thread, this is the kind of situation where the search feature on the forum just isn't good enough. I can't put in a blank search field and limit it by name and subforum, it simply won't allow that search whereas other search features would. When you're a relatively new member like me and have to catch up a lot it gets to be annoying quickly.
It also won't accept a space, or "the" which would be more likely to occur in any post
No results for "wood" or "spork" for his posts in the mod squad subfroum
[img] isn't possibly to search for
I suspect that the fact he has an exclamation mark in his name actually makes the search return 0 results every time
He has 2500 posts so this will be a long day if I'm to go through all of them >.<

Incidentally, this is also why I tried to get this going

The thread was only created yesterday... ahh well.

I realize some of you have lives, but between having an iPhone (I have bene known to reply to threads while at various stores or walking to/from them) and living so square in the middle of the city that any errand I might possibly have can't physically take more than 10 minutes, I really don't have much to do other than hang around here  :ahhh Yesterday might as well be 1923 for me.
That's what life is like when you go from working part time and studying full time to only studying full time :D

I find the search function works great here.  Unlike other forums, if you stick in a load of words it comes up with posts that contain them all, not just any post containing either of the words.  In fact I'd say it's safe to say that you are the first person to complain about it so I say it's fine as it is.  Have you considered the fact it could be the user that doesn't work very well  :pok: :D

I'd find some for you but I'm too tired after playing in sand all day...

I'm back!!

I was having trouble with the "by user" search myself, until I *just* (as in moments ago) realized that for a long spaced out user name like "Spork, Lord of Lime Jello!" you have to put the name in quotes.  That might help!

I had assumed (obviously incorrectly) that one who does so much with other sites would know the basics of our search function.

And no one was insulting you.  You just take this place way too seriously.  ;)

I dunno about Odegard over there, but most of the sites I normally visit don't let users have such colorful names.  Otherwise, I'd have put a space in my moniker in the first place!   :D  Maybe even something referring to my skill with mall ninja weapons...

You're right, it's all good and pancakes  :D I'm just glad to have made a bit more sense of the search feature. If anyone know how to make it search for "blank" let me know, it would be very helpful in trying to list all of a member's post in a specific subforum
