Replace a PST 2 Blade
on: September 09, 2010, 09:45:33 AM
Hi,

I'm fairly new to the forum, but have had Leatherman's since I can remember. I tend to prefer the original models but the Charge is probably one of my favourite 'new' tools.

Still looking to replace an old Sideclip that was taken during a visit to South Africa...

I have a question on the PST 2: Is it possible to replace the blade with a non-serrated one? If so, which one? Obviously Leatherman will not do such a modification. Can a loose part be ordered to do the work one-self?

Cheers,

Pieter

A PST blade will fit in it just fine.

I second that. I did that a few years ago and it worked fine.

I've been told a standard PST would work myself.  You can't buy the blade by itself though, not unless someone here has one to spare (worth asking over in the 'tools wanted' section I'd think).
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Yep I got another blade myself from a member here by asking in that section but it was to replace a broken PST blade :) The PST II should be able to be swapped out no problem :tu:

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies.

I will have a look at the blade once I receive my PST in a few days.

I will have to take a look in the "How To" section to see how it is done :-) Time for a mod... ;)

Cheers,

Pieter

Hi,

I decided to give Leatherman a call and ask them if they would do the dirty work for me, by swapping the blades out. I do not have the right tools (other than LM's off course) and did not want to damage the screws and invalidate the warranty.

Low and behold, they said bring them in, we will swap them over, AND you will retain your warranty. Just be sure to bring both tools in to show that they are "closely related"  ;) if there is ever a warranty issue

Now this is service, LM modding their own tools in the service centre.  :D

Now I have a new PST II with a fine PST blade - and imho the best combination tool set other than the Pulse. In the drawer a PST with the new combo blade. It may not get a lot of use, I'm not a fan of the combo blades.

Pictures will come over the weekend.

Cheers,

Pieter

Indeed,

LM support here in Sydney is Fantastic. They swapped the blades for me while I was booking 2 other ones in for service and sharpening.

Yep, used Zen Imports in West Ryde. Spoke to them on the phone first, then popped in to see them. This is the second time I had to deal with them and both times were good.

Send it to them via registered mail, they fix it and return it via registered mail.

Cheers,

Pieter

That's above and beyond service there.  I suppose they don't get that kind of request too often or they'd have to turn people away?

Excellent service that. :salute:  I also think you've gotten a better PST II, like you I much prefer a plain edge blade especially if you don't tend to carry a pocket knife as well.  I really might have to do this myself as it's the main aspect of the PST II that I really don't care for.

If you can post pics I'd love to see it over here:
