Velcro collects more lint than a belly button.   :D

I'd prefer a metal snap too (that's just me), but don't really hate velcro as it has its own uses.  My EDC MT and light are using velcro enclosures and they are holding up fine for some years now.

Thank you all for filling in some of the positions on Velcro.  While reading the other thread, I also began to wonder.

I agree about the noise and catching on stuff, both are a pain.  I haven't had a problem with the Velcro on my Pock Its XL wearing or picking up stuff.  Where I've had an issue is on lesser quality pieces.  The old XL has been EDC for about 3 years now.  If it ever wears out and I can get another I'll want one just like it.

I hate the noise, mostly.  I generally prefer a magnetic closure, but know that not everyone digs them.  I prefer Velcro for mounting things, not closing them...I just don't find it all that suitable for long-term daily use.
Half-ass done wholeheartedly!

I don't mind it in certain situations.... actually in most, but sometimes I do: I used to have a velcro wallet and when I commutted, early in the morning, in the train.. everyone around me asleep , and I had to show my ticket... the velcro just tears aloud and I have the feeling I wake up all the passengers and everyone's  :pommel:at me :D The same for when I was at uni, during a lecture, was bored/needed to check sth in my wallet... I need sth more discreet & silent when I'm in silent environment, lol.

But in general I do not mind velcro and I've always wondered myself why so many people associate velcro with children's wallets & stuff.

Yeah, yeah, I know this topic is so old that most people have already forgotten it most probably... :D

I am still using velcro on my pouches, but always where the hook (hard part) is on the pouch (bag part of a pouch) and the loop (soft part) is on the flap part of the pouch. Normally the soft part wears out and if on the flap, you can still replace it before you want to throw the pouch away. On the flap you can still sow with a sewing machine but not on the other part of the pouch.
Regards
Johan

Amici,
I agree with all the above posts as to why velcro stinks, give me a nickle silver snap anyday. But this seems to be slowly going the way of the do do bird since more often than not, vendors are switching to velcro in the majority of their sheaths. If Buck Knives ever do, then it's game over man!

Cheers,
Serge

Velcro, all the time!
Only thing you need to use instead of commercial, low quality velcros, is the milspec ones. I have a pocket organiser custom built for me by Dark Tactical, well, the first time I couldn't open it, it was so hard. :) After a year, it hasn't weakened a bit.
