Xbox 360 or PS3?
« on: October 15, 2007, 03:05:11 AM »
I'm considering buying either an Xbox 360 or a PS3.  Aside from the price difference, anyone have any thoughts on which one to get?

I always figured the best bet was to make a list of the games you want, and get the system that has the most titles.

But then I haven't bought a console since the original Nintendo, so what do I know? :P

Fortunately (or unfortunately) almost all of the games I would want are available on both systems...

Option 3:  A "gaming" PC.

Consoles now are almost the same price as a new computer :-X

Considering the cost of computers has dropped significantly over the past few years, that's especially true.

The nice thing is you can get emulators now so you can play any console games on your PC, so you don;t have to choose the platform!

I'd go ps3 too, purely because it's by far and away the more reliable platform :) :)

The PS3 isn't as reliable as you might think. I would go for the 360. I have a 360 and like it a lot, I've played the PS3 and was quite impressed though. I'm not a big gamer so I had to way up the benefits before I bought one. But the reason I did buy one over the PS3 is because it is cheaper to buy, more games available, games are cheaper, big online gaming community and the 360 has a 3yr warranty and PS3 has a 1yr warranty. Not saying the PS3 is bad at all, its actually more powerful and looks better but the overall benefits IMHO favour the 360.  :)

But PS3 don't generally try to incinerate you house ;D ;D

I take your point though, I've not got either, and in truth I'm still happy with my humble game cube and PS2 :-[ :-[

Yeah, like i said I'm not a huge gamer, thats why I've got a few of the newish games that I really like in High Def on the 360, but I often go back to my PS2 because it has all of my older games like the GTA series and others that i still like to have a go on.

That's one of the reason's why I never got one of the next gen consoles, I still like my old games too much, and I don't need to play the latest greatest games all the time :)

I'm not rulling out getting one at some point the future, I just can't muster a burning desire to get one. (I enjoy playing mario kart with my 4 year old son to much :)).

I like my X-Box 360.  Then again, I play a lot of Halo.  All my friends have the X-box 360 so that is what I have out of conformity.  Overall, I believe that both systems are equal in their capabilities.

That's another good point- getting a system that's incompatible with what friends are playing kind of ruins it, no matter how much better it might be.

IMO you get more from a gaming PC. A lot of games do have net ability so that's mute, unless there's a particular game you want that doesn't support it.
