New Leatherman Tools (Hawkchucker tried scoopin' the boss)!
« on: January 17, 2011, 08:21:33 PM »
In case you aren't keeping up with my Tweets and FB announcements (and shame on you if you aren't!) I managed to sneak onto the show floor today while everyone is setting up, and I just happened to see a Leatherman display for two new tools, called (IIRC) the Wingman and the SideKick.  I don't have any details, and I wasn't able to get a picture, but I will have more info tomorrow after I meet with them.

You heard it here first though!

Can't wait.  Juli had said that they would introduce new tools.  She just didn't say how many.

That was all I saw, but I didn't hang around long enough to draw attention to myself!

You don't need to sign up for Twitter.  If you just go to www.twitter.com/EDCSource you'll see all my updates.  The only benefit you get from signing up is that you can get the messages in real time, either in an email, text message etc.

Not that it's a huge deal, but you would have known about this sighting about an hour earlier if you were on Twitter, simply because I can post messages there as I see things, while I have to come back to the hotel to post things on the forum.  Of course, I do have my netbook with me, and there is wifi in the Press Room, I don't go there often.  As Bob will likely attest, the Show is basically running from one meeting to the next, trying to squeeze in some interesting booths along the way.

So, for breaking news, FB and Twitter are it.

The Sidekick appears to be based on the Skeletool platform:

"Multi-function hand tools comprised of two or more of the following tool elements -- screwdriver, scissors, pliers, wire cutter, wood saw, package opener, serrated utility blade, bottle and can opener, file, ruler, wire stripper, carabiner, cap lifter, knife blade, and nylon and leather sheaths therefor"

Could the Wingman is based on the Freestyle ?

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. Both the Style CS and the MUT have the carabiner and neither are based on the Skeletool except in appearance.

The Wingman doesn't have a blade listed on the description - another knifeless perhaps?
