New Wenger water bottles
on: January 19, 2011, 04:20:16 PM
While at Wenger's booth yesterday I was drawn to these new bottles they had on display.

Wenger had no interest in really making a stink about these as they weren't really a main line product, but I harassed them into telling me more about them, as I thought they were really nice!

They are BPA free (of course!) and aluminum, available in several rally nice colors and look a lot nicer than my old Wenger bottles!

I asked if they were rebranded SIGG bottles and was told that they weren't- at least not really.  Apparently a number of SIGG employees left the company feeling that they could make a better bottle, and this is the result of that process.

There's supposed to be some multi level sealer process that is seamless enough to the user that it locks shut when you just screw the top on.  It looked interesting, but I didn't spend alot of time with them.

Even though my old Wenger bottles are still in great condition (three of the four never left the box!) I think I may have to replace them with one of these beauties!

THey do like nice, i lik eth ebigger mouth than on the normal Sigg's
I dont care for the bottles with a food grade liner, plasitic is plastic and all things break down.

Kleen Kanteens are still the way to go! http://kleankanteen.com/ I got me a non painted non insulated bottle and I put it right on my camp stove.

The important question: can it be opened with a swiss army knife?

Like the look of those a lot.  :tu:  As Darkhawk says the bigger mouth looks to be a bonus over the standard Sigg.

They look good.  I also have two small boys who'd be very happy to field test a couple :P

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Over at REI, EMS and Wholefoods, the SIGG bottle are quite popular :drink:\

I don't know. They are fine, but I'm not sure they are enough above the competition to get very excited about.

For some reason I've collected a few bottles over the last couple of years, I have a SIGG with some tree root thing on it, a little different than the solid colors I thought.  Several other aluminum and stainless steel ones too.  My most recent and current daily user is titanium.  My next one will be Glass and Bamboo. I don't think there is room in my collection for a Wenger just yet.

I'd like to know about the coating, because really when your talking high quality aluminum bottles there is not much left to perfect than the coating.  I'm probably not the target audience because the extra weight of stainless steel is a non issue to me, so maybe the serious hikers are still looking fer a better alluminum bottle, but I would have been more interested in a high quality titanium one, that's a hard metal to work with so the one I have could be improved on.
