Casio G-Shock
« on: October 22, 2007, 05:47:24 PM »
Hi all,

I currently wear a Wenger chronograph watch and although I am pleased with it I am looking for a change.

My current job is as an assistant manager of a childrens home with children that have epilepsy and challenging behaviour. With this comes lots of bathing of kids, so my watch gets wet quite often, and on some occasions my watch can recieve a few blows from the children and it can even be bitten sometimes.  So I need a watch that can stand up to this.

As the children also have epilepsy, timing of seizures is crucial.  My experiences in the past have shown that similar watches to the G-Shock require a few buttons to be pressed before a timer can be started.  This is no good to me as I need it to be an accurate and quick timer to select.

Does anyone own a G-Shock?  What are the general thoughts on them?  Would they withstand the punishment that they would receive?  And very importantly, do any of them have a 1 button start stopwatch?

I am interested in the Mudman to give you the kind of style I am after;

Thanks all!  :)

Benner

I own a casio G-Shock with tough solar and Atomic time, works wonderful. It can definatly take all the abuse you give it and then some, timers.....I have to hit mode four times before I get to the chrono, I can do it quick but that is cause I use it to time myself while I am on break at work all the time. For abuse, thumbs up, for your ease of use chrono....might just want to go with a small stop watch.

Does yours have similar buttons to the mudman, so in theory would be programmed the same way?

I had a G-shock ironman, that an ex-girlfriend bought me, and it lasted a good 2-3 years before the battery died ::), I'm back useing my old reliable russian automatic mechanical watch...

Mine's very similar, But it does loose about 40-60 seconds a day, unless I'm doing lots of work or something, so probably no good for you ::)

I'd say go for a G-shock as it's pretty much perfect for your line of work,(just watch out for the batteries dying)

Did yours have a "one touch" stopwatch though?

Yes it did but it was a little fiddley as the buttons quite deeply recessed, so it may be difficult to use in a hurry or when stressed :-\

I'm as calm as a cucumber me.  :)

That's good.  What I don't want is a watch where I have to press mode 4 times then start just to get a stopwatch going.  It needs to be instant.  Thats why I have an anologue chronograph.

Well if I remember rightly it was called the ''iron man'', It's wasn't a bad watch at all but the nylon strap looked really second hand quickly.

So do I normally.  Fancy a change though.

I can't find that Iron man.  :(  There is a timex with the same name though.
