Tim Leatherman inducted into Hall of Fame
« on: August 14, 2006, 04:57:47 AM »
I was just reading the latest Blade mag when I saw that Tim Leatherman was inducted into the Cutlery Hall of Fame at the Blade show this year.
I can't think of a more deserving person, his PST started the revival and was a revolution in the Knife tool business.
I own every one of his products that he has put out, some have never been used, some have been very abused, some are at the bottom of the Fraser River and at least one of his products usually see's pocket or Belt time each day.

Congratulations to Tim Leatherman

I didn't see that... the latest Blade mag I have is September 2006....  Which issue is that in?
Congratulations to Tim anyways though.  And it's nice to see someone getting in for something other than another tactical folder or gaudy fixed blade! :P

Maybe now the multitool industry will finally be recognized as a legitimate section of the larger Cutlery Industry?

I couldn't agree more.  I think that we are at a pivotal time in the Multitool industry.  It grew and grew and grew, way too fast, as fads often will, but lately it seems to be slowing down, and that will cut out alot of the fluff, leaving only real tools, which will be recognized as such by the larger community.  I am hoping to start seeing some customizers come out with some modded tools sometime- that would go a long way to really getting people's attention.

It's only a matter of time....

I have a few ideas myself but I need to snag a junker or two to fool around with first.

I don't know if he's an innovator or a marketer. There were various multitools long before Tim Leatherman came on the scene. He just brought them to the mainstream

That is true, but either way, you have to give the man something for popularizing them.  Either way, the man deserves some recognition and I am glad he is getting it.

I read the article this weekend.  I found it interesting to hear about the people who turned him down.  His persistence is model behavior for business men and women.  I am also glad to see he is getting some well deserved recognition.

Persistence is the key... Look at Abe Lincoln, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates.  They were turned down so many times and yet still managed to make it to the top.

If you have a good idea, you have to run with it, no matter how many people doubt your sanity!
