Leatherman Charge SLV
« on: November 09, 2007, 09:14:55 PM »
Does anyone know anything about the Charge SLV? Its exclusive to Costco. I popped my head in there today, and they had the Charge (slv), along with the c303 knife, and sheath, and bit holder/bits.

It looks like the Charge AL/ALX but with grey scales instead of black.
Other than that It looks pretty similar, has straigth edge, and a serrated, saw, file, scissors, openers, bit, small bit, etc. Pretty much everything the TTI has, without that "crimper" area on the pliers, and a full serrated instead of a guthook.

Oh and these babies had more fingerprints and smudges than any other new leatherman I've seen. Well, every LM I've seen has them, but these had a lot more.

I don;t know anything about it, but a friend of mine works for Costco, so I may have to contact him and see what's up.

Thats cool. I think it'd be neat if they eventually gave more options for the handle color.

I can't tell from the picture- does it have 154CM or s30v for the main blade?

I think you'll see more colors available for the Charge line in the future, which was one of the reasons we put out the custom Multitool.org Charges when we did.  We figured if we waited, it'd be old hat.

After all, they obviously have the capability for anodizing- look at the Juice and the Squirt models.  It's a logical progression to start offering them on the Charge series, which have handle scales rather than an integrated handle/frame like other models like the Core.

I got one heck of a great deal last week on a Charge SLV package from some character who didn't know what he had. It should arrive in a few days. I'll report back with some photos.

(Because I don't really know what it is either!)  :P

Is Costco  Leatherman's test retailer? I recall, probably incorrectly, that the Juice Pro originally began as a special model done up for Costco.

Sorry for not replying sooner gentlemen

the set is selling for $99. And the package says that the blade is 154CM on the Charge.I dont think it mentioned what it was for the c303.

Is this a decent deal? Yea I think it is. I dunno about how it compares to a normal Charge though. I noticed a lot more fingerprints on this than any other new leatherman I've seen.

I've heard of manufacturers making a cheaper version of their product to sell to BIG RETAILERS (walmart). They use cheaper components, and sell it for cheaper to take the business away from normal retailers. Again, just what I heard.

Looked at the LM website again, and the SLV has the exact same features as the Charge AL, not the TTI

That is a decent deal considering the Charge alone usually goes for $100 or more.

I would pay that for it. Seems like a good deal. Only problem is we have nothing but Sams clubs and BJ's in our area, Not a costco to be seen.

That's what SLV is usually used for.

Hmm... You're right. :)

A quesiton about the color- Is it a similar grey to "Storm gray", or is it a new color?

I think it's probably a new color.  I don;t know for sure, but I know that the really hard anodizing stuff only comes in black or grey.  In order to keep the anodizing as hard as the black models they'd have to use the grey that's available, and I don't think that's what was used on the Juice series as they scratch relatively easily.
