Searching for the Holy Grail...
on: April 04, 2011, 11:02:29 PM
The currently ideal solution for me... MODSMAN ( MODeler + woodSMAN )
I bought old Champion (& Compact) and create my own model... removed openers, fish scaler, chisel and put combo opener instead of a small blade.

And from the rest there is a special DofE-style for my daughter... slightly rounded blade & scissors (next pic), added combo opener from Wenger, Phillips and hook... and FruitScaler from Champion... she really likes saw ;)

I'm with Nate, that really is a great tool configuration.  Nice one. :tu:

I like them both! The Modsman is a good woods knife, while your daughter's knife works nicely as a first knife- I never thought of using the fish scaler on fruit, but I have used it to rip through cardboard as a test.

How does the snap feel on the Wenger combo in the Vic?

Very nice! My next planned mod -- my next step towrd a presonal EDC grail -- is a Yeodeler. ;) Yeoman (original) configuration with a metal saw/file. There's one other implement I'll be adding, but will need to see if it works before I mention it (don't want to jinx it).

Thanks guys...
Yeodeler :tu: It was my plan too but wood saw is a mighty tool - even in 91-line :)

Pic of EFK after regrind... oh and wenger combo is snapping pretty good - just stick out a little bit in closed position ;)
Now only rivets and black+ scales from Compact.
edit: daughter is enjoying most of the file on hook and said: "... where the magnifying glass is?"

I like how the rounded scissors and blade came out, very nice!

And I've got to ask- how are you going to integrate the 1/4" bit in that? Impatient minds have to inquire.

I reshaped the hex-bit screwdriver, but will not fit there - there not enough place to drill a hole for pin - just a little bit
... have to think of another solution...

Yesterday I finally concluded the project Modsman ... tools selection unchanged. I just moved the Phillips/magnifying glass in the middle layer... it will be surely better from ergonomic aspects. It's riveted now, everything is going well, snap is excellent ;)
Just add walnut handles...

Very cool! The little red bit I assume is a pocket hanger- kydex? And what is the stamp on it?

Thank you gentlemen... it is encouraged for further work :tu:

2ironraven: it's really from Kydex... stamp is "double-foot" mark of polish maker which produces these hooks ;)

Something new...long-planned conversion of a model CyberTool34 to...Monteur 8)
Remove the reamer, hook, small blade, scissors and both openers ... added combo opener, metal saw/file and scaler.

...and if I keep pins from Cyber Tool, I pieced together... Lumber(big)jack  ;)

So... why the fish scaler?

I do like the bigger Lumberjack, although I think the original had a phillips not a corkscrew.
